Comment:
Charlie is a great teacher. He is extremely smart and knows what he is talking about. His discussions are great and to have the best experience you have to participate and read the plays to get a full understanding (There are some really amazing plays). It's fun if you make it fun. A lot of pop quizzes that sparknotes might not help you with

Charlie can be very harsh, but you will learn in his class. And he does like his favorites, if you are a performer it helps to have a nice rack but its not mandatory to be a favorite. Just skim the readings and you'll do okay.

I'll admit I couldn't get all the readings done.watch the plays whenever you can. Sparknotes also. Charlie's opinion is important when you take his quizzes and tests, but you don't have to conform to be a theater major.Listen to what he says, and use it to your advantage. He's very smart, helpful and I wouldn't be at Mberg if it wasn't for him.

Charles is the smartest teacher I have ever had, but with that comes A LOT of work. The reading is HEAVY for Theatre and Society and he's a hard grader in my opinion. Oh yeah, he gives a lot of pop quizes too. His midterm and final weren't too bad though.

This man lives and breathes the American musical. Great professor, extremely intelligent, and really knows his stuff. Really gets into the material, too. Has a lot of pop quizzes and assigns a huge amount of reading, but just take lots of notes, participate, pay attention, and come to class. Also very accessible and available outside of class.

He is ridiculous. Picks favorites. His favorites get A's, his smart non-favorites get Bs, and everyone else just does badly. He only is accepting of his own opinion and thinks everyone is stupid if they disagree. Please take theatre and society with another professor if you can.

Key To Charlie Richter's Class: Pay Attention (Or look like you are), Agree with all of his opinions and know them for the midterm/final, and don't be offended by his (often) rude comments on play critiques...because he will be harsh.

Look, Charlie is crazy, no doubt about it. His classes can be a bit boring and if you have classes with a lot of actors, especially those who love to be on stage every moment of their lives, then you won't get you two sense in during the class (kind of an issue). The key is participate and talk to him. He knows a lot, just a little out there...

A wonderful man... He is an incredible director, but his classes are what really captures me about him. He holds open talks that are open to change depending upon what students bring up. He leaves much up to interpretation, but is clear and precise where it matters. He gives a million and one chances to do the work right and is a very nice guy.

Charles does have his favorites, but as long as you show interest in what he's doing you can acheive that status, it's true he tends to favor actors and directors, but remember, he is not the end all be all of the department (anymore).

He's a great directing teacher, but beware: his class really does take a lot of your time and you really really really can't miss any classes! On the other hand, I'm in grad school now and I'm way more prepaired for directing here than anyone else in my class.

I had Charlie years ago and I agree. he's a good guy at heart, but what you see from him doesn't always sem that way. Lots of folks DO slip through the cracks and he's oblivious to it rather than intentional.

Charlie is a bit scatterbrained. He let's some talented people slip through the cracks while allowing others who perhaps are actors..not design...flourish in the department. A nice guy at heart, but really let me down.
