If you are taking ECE 103 with him, you can study from the required text since that text is a gold for qualitative aspect on semiconductor. If you are taking ECE 135A with him, good luck with readings (different notation from 7-8 references). Professor Tu is a very nice researcher that lacks the ability to explain introductory level knowledge.

Very nice professor, but you're going to need the book because lectures are horrible. Different notations all over the place from different books, and very mono-tone and difficult to keep attention. Exams are not too bad: Although average is low, curve is lenient. Go to discussion because TA practically gives answers to HW and insight on exams.

Worst professor/teacher I've had in my life. Can not explain a single thing without confusing you even more. His PP notation is 100% different from the course textbook which makes it impossible to do well on the exams even when you teach yourself from the textbook. He doesn't do one thing right as a professor and yet is super tough on grading.

Awful lecturer. Unclear explanations, and frequently teaches concepts incorrectly and then backpedals to clarify, causing lots of confusion. Homework has little to do with what was taught in class. He's not malicious and is totally willing to help students, but is unfortunately unable to.

Terrible lecturer. Hardly any examples during class. Straight from the PP slides. Hard exams. Hard HW. He wants the best for every student, however, he's not right professor to teach this class. He's helpful one on one, but in a classroom environment, he's bad.

I had a lot of trouble with this class. I found that lectures really confused me, and I had to sit with the book for a long time for the material to make sense. Go to his office hours, he is much more helpful there than in lecture. All in all, his heart's in the right place and he's a really nice guy.

Really nice person. Willing to help students. But because the material, his effort doesn't have much effect. The only way people can survive in the class is to read the book until understand before lecture. And solve all homework problem.
