Comment:

Graduated from P'burgh several years ago. Dr. Zinser was my favorite prof. I took every class that he taught. Straightforward, honest, non-nonsense guy. If you are a BS artist or suck-up, you will not like him, as he sees through that. They did break the mold when they made him; has his own "unique" style. Has rules that he actually enforces.

By far the worst teacher I've ever had. Seems uninterested in helping students do good in class, goes on tirades at the class when we ask questions. Seems like an okay guy I guess, I just don't know why he's a teacher, seemed like he doesn't really enjoy teaching, rather he enjoys talking about himself. He should be a guest speaker instead.

He is a hard grader and a hard-butt (can't curse). 28% of my class failed the first test and 16% the second. He gives a lot of notes and makes you read a horrible book, "The Long Emergency", not recommended bedtime reading. My vote is to avoid him.

I have attended every class, taken notes, read the book, and studied for hours on end and im still doing horrible. I go to him for help and just get told to read the study guide. He goes through the powerpoints he makes way too fast and crames in too much before tests.

the class started out looking pretty good then he came to realize people were not doing the readings and became a total khachaos after a couple weeks. there were four non-cumulativ e tests that were alright. do the reading. and yes he does love his gps. hes a pretty crazy guy. i would say take it and study/read

my least favorite teacher. in a course called env conservation, he only talks about GPS and how he's used them to map his marshland with his buddies. its boring and when the test comes around, he zips through what we should have been learning in about 2 days, telling us we should just read about it in the text. he gives a studyguide before test tho

By far,the worst professor I have experienced at Pburgh.The course is environmental conservation and all we have learned about is GPS and the adirondack park- it's a big world out there.Theres more to environmental conservation than upstate NY.A possibly interesting class that was ruined by a professor that is more interestedin himself than teachin

He's a nice guy that you'd wanna take to a kegger and get ****...but not a good teacher. The class is easy enough, but he dosen't teach a lot - before tests he emails a "study guide" which is 50 questions that are right off the test so that's helpful. VERY strict attendance policy - that was my downfall.

Somewhat difficult and kinda wierd. I wouldnt recomend him as your first choice for this class but it's barable if you do take it. He's just a dude that loves the outdoors and hiking and stuff like that. He's acctually got some pretty interesting stories and photos that you will see and hear in the class, but probly not the best prof.

By far the worst teacher at this school. Refuses to help you during office hours (will go "I don't know, go look it up.") Unorganized, unclear, horrible. Pretends to have an accent. He favours students by giving certain people better grades than other students with same answers. If you take a class with him, good luck, you'll need it.

I have a degree in geog. from Pburgh. Zinser is the worst professor I have had. GPS GPS GPS and the reason is that he is so far behind the curve when it comes to GIS. Stubborn man more interested in rules and authority than educating the student. Class not hard but virtually worthless. Don't miss tests unless you have EBOLA and can prove it.

This guy loves his GIS. No wonder the computer are so slow in the department, the man uses the whole budget on 500 dollar GPS units, one per semester. Go to his office and he will show you about 8 of them.

does not teach. gives out sheet with "directions" on it. ask a question and he says everything is on the sheet. ask another question and he will hell at you. he called a student a "pain in the ass" for asking a question-not making this up. had to drop the class it was so bad. not much of a teacher.

His lecture always related to his GPS toys. He is just like a saleperson selling you GPS. His exams are not about GPS. totally different story. don't take his class he will give you F.
