He is very great at giving you help (TA's are super helpful as well!) so there's no reason why you should be completely lost. Tests are easy. Just look over the slides and come to class even though you will want to skip (test questions ask stuff about in-class things). If you have a genuine interest in coding, take this! Moderate effort required!

Sandvig is a really great guy but a lack luster professor. When lecturing he slams through the slides before you can take notes and then lets you out 5-10 minutes early almost every class period. He didn't have a lab time or TA for this course and lectures are in a classroom so you can't follow along. The entire course is basically self taught.

Labs are fine, although take into consideration that many of the lab instructions have typos. Tests are fine, study from the online slides, your labs (some context will be from your labs that will not be on the test, regarding tables and # of tables in my case), and the reading. Chris is a great guy, very enthusiastic on the subject.

One of the worst classes I've taken in my college career. The assignments are vague and must be self-taught as the professor offers no helpful descriptions or guidelines. The lectures are completely pointless, and have no real relation to graded classwork. Lastly the tests are equally vague with many trick questions and unclear answers. Avoid.

Overall I liked this class. The labs were very time consuming. Some of his lectures were confusing (I think it's confusing to people with less knowledge in programming) I still did fine. I think the content of this course is very interesting. Good course to take if you want to do web development (and get the certificate for it). Nice professor.

Sandvig is a fantastic professor, makes even super complex coding very easy to learn. He was always available for extra help, and he can spot errors in your code so fast you'd think he was a wizard.

MIS 314 was fun. Lots of work if you haven't done any programming before I enjoyed learning PHP and SQL. Sandvig knows his stuff and does a good job explaining both the details and the larger picture.

This is a fun and challenging course if you are interested in web development. Sandvig explains concepts clearly and has a good sense of humor. The assignments are time consuming but very helpful for learning PHP & mySQL. The project is a lot of work but ties together all the material from the course.

Sandvig is a very nice professor who really enjoys teaching. The class is very challenging but it's interesting and you walk out of it with a very cool final project. Labs are optional but they progress to get very difficult, especially if you haven't done much programming, so they are very useful. Just expect to spend hours coding each week.

Great class. Professor is very knowledgeable about web development. Lectures can be boring but are well organized and Sandvig's dry sense of humor keeps you awake. Bookstore project during second half of course is fun and challenging. Assignments are time consuming. Highly recommend for anyone interested in learning PHP & mySQL.

This was a really interesting class, though it was a lot of work. The lectures can be boring at times, but on the tests he will ask questions from the lectures. Make sure you go to the optional labs and get help from the TA. Overall a very good class.

A good class, but pretty difficult and a lot of work. Weekly assignments are time consuming, the project is difficult, and the tests were much harder than I expected. Still, it was a very useful class and I feel that I learned a lot about PHP and SQL. A good class to take if you are sincerely interested in website creation.

Course covers web programming with ASP and databases. Good stuff and fun to learn. I probably could have learned it all from the book but Sandvig gives good tips and examples. Assignments are also very helpful. I plan to take MIS 324 from him next winter.

Awesome guy, always willing to answer your questions. Classes are sort of boring but still worth going to if you enjoy the stuff. Plan to spend at least 5-10 hrs a week programming, some weeks even more. Start early as they can be hell at times. Overall my favorite prof at WWU and favorite classes.

Comment:
Sandvig lacks the zeal and knowledge to be teaching a web scripting course. This class is cut and paste code with a small amount of original thought.
