Comment:
Dr. Olivo is a great professor and is a wealth of knowledge. She is caring and helpful as long as you talk to her and work out problems in advance. She is very opinionated and will let you know where she stands on issues, but she can back everything up with facts and will carry discussions with those who oppose her.

Comment:
This was my second class with Dr. Olivo and I had a much better experience this time around. She was easily accessible outside of class and her feedback helped me succeed. My advice is to come to class, skim the readings, and get her advice on drafts before turning in the midterm/final.

Obviously if you're in a 415 class you should know what to expect from a polsyci prof, but Olivo is great. She has high expectations and makes sure to make you work. There is a lot of reading (but you dont have a choice in your capstone) but she makes class discussions interesting.

This class kind of felt like book club at times. While we discussed important issues, we only operated within the books and it felt lazy. Olivo is a fine professor, nothing special.

Comment:
Politics of Education could have been more defined as book club. There was reading from the assigned five or six books every day, then discussion on it. No direct material to understand. Then, in essays when she asked for your opinion, if it didn't align with hers you would get marked down.

Olivo is a kind professor who is passionate about the subject she teaches. The reading is extensive but worth it. However, Her grading on exams is what concerns me. Normally, they are take home essay exams. Her grading is skewed and sometimes seems unjustifiable.

I feel cheated out of what could have been a great class. Her first half of her class was alright but then when we began our discussion on the European Union, she left our class in the dark. We had to read a huge most incompressible textbook which she would not elaborate on its content. All she did was talk about newspaper clippings. Awful Teacher

She cares about the subject and she assumes that everyone in the class does too. It is an extremely difficult class, especially for a 105 level LAC course. The grading scale is very difficult because the midterm and final make up 200/300 points, but the other 100 is easy if you get a good TA and go to class and she gives extra participation points.

She's not the greatest but definitely not the worst. Sometimes I just think she likes to hear herself talk. Too much reading, 5 books for a low level class. Her grading is a bit skewed.

I don't know why all these positive comments are on here, she is a horrible professor. She is on a major power trip and grades on favoritism. Completely self-important and uninteresting
