Comment:
A little hot headed. Often times students say hi to him before class and he doesn't even reply. However, he is clearly pretty knowledgable. He thinks school should be how it was 30 years ago without computers and powerpoints (he doesn't even use blackboard!!). So basically expect to read a crap ton and take a lot of notes in class.

He's a very interesting guy. His personality takes a while to warm up to, but after you do he is very funny and clearly very knowledgeable. Class is discussion oriented. The reading was pretty dry for the most part, but discussions make up for it. He doesn't have a lot of tests. We had two essay tests. Grading is pretty fair. Not a lot of lecture.

Dr. Luger is the chair of the political science department and truly cares about what he teaches. He expects you to read a chapter or two prior to each class discussion which is absolutely do-able. He takes attendance daily--so make sure to show up! There are two papers over the readings! Overall he's a great guy and professor!

One of the best professors I have ever had, UNC is very lucky to have him! He is all about engaging in conversations with the class, but still directs the discussion in great ways. I really don't like politics or economics, but I learned so much in his class and actually enjoyed it. Stan's the man!

Dr. Luger is perhaps the best professor that I have had at UNC. Dr. Luger is demanding, in terms of expectations of his students, but is also demanding of himself making him a great professor. UNC is lucky to have him.

Dr. Luger is one of the best professors at UNC. Be prepared for a ton of reading, but after having him for three different classes at UNC, I am glad that I took his classes as my knowledge was vastly expanded. He can seem a little harsh on the outside and challenge your arguments in class, but this is what I am looking for in a professor.

This class was a discussion class. So if you don't talk in it you get a quiz but if you just read the books which are interesting novels and talk about what you felt about the topics discussed the class is awesome. Thats all Luger wants so as long as your interested you'll do fine. He gives you study questions for tests too.

Very smart guy, knows his subject very well, and has a clearly defined viewpoint that you can learn from without sharing. That being said, his personality is one that leads to personality conflicts. I though that he was an unsupportive and callous jerk.

Best in Poli Sci department. I am a senior and have taken every class he offers except his problems course. I've even taken the Mind and ENST class all were educational, fun, and always lively. Can be difficult if your not used to his New York style. Great Professor and is my academic advisor. An Expert in the field and one of the best at UNC.

Had Luger for a few classes in my day. Man is a good teacher, with good points. Fun to talk with after class. Promised to get a beer with us after class, but that never happened. He wrote a book on the Politics of the Auto Industry... Still need to check that out.
