There was tons of reading and the assignments were massive. I've never had so much work in a class (and this is my Sr year). I was hoping to learn more about gender but it was really more of an advanced writing class.

This class is the best I've taken at SU. It involves contemporary controversial topics, very intense class discussions, and large amount critical thinking. Enter with an open mind and be prepared to be challenged (both by the workload and by unfamiliar perspectives). If done, this class promises to be wonderful, eye opening, and engaging.

If you ask her for help, she'll let you rewrite some papers and will help you to do it. Grades are not updated online, so there's no way to know how well you're doing (or not), but she is a nice teacher and means well.

Nice lady, contagious laugh, but I absolutely would not take the class again. The organization of assignments seemed so random, and she would explain assignments like 3 days before they were due. Unless you have the time to meet with your group during like EVERY lunch hour to get through the assignments, don't take this class.

Almost everything is a group project. One 20pg paper (group project), 2 rough drafts due before that, a medium-size essay (separate), multiple "progress reports" due, even tho we turn in drafts, proposals, etc., additional "reflection essays" (separate), and more reading than possible. Many of these are back2back assignments, with 1 week's notice.

If I had one day left to live, I'd spend it in this class - because it felt like an eternity. There were no lectures... Every class felt like a group therapy session. I didn't know what to do with that class when I took it. What was the point of it? I still don't know. I learned nothing about myself except how much I didn't like the class.

Without trying to use superlatives - I'm not sure I've taken a class that I disliked more. Assignments overlap each other, are vague, and confusing. This is a class to 'explore your feelings' - and I did not find it academic or helpful. This was not personally a class I appreciated paying for, but many students seemed to love the non-academic feel.

Great class with lots of meaningful discussions, but the reading load was unbearable. It was hard to keep up with assignments and sometimes we would read and then we would never review the content which was frustrating and felt like a waste of time. Mower is a very sweet individual and will help you reach out to her.

Love her. Taken a few classes from her. Covers intriguing areas, very knowledgable, liberal, open-minded, and understanding. Always willing to help and work with her students, even at 11 at night. Good sense of humor. Doesn't overload with h/w. Great personality. Someone I feel comfortable talking to as a person instead of just a professor.

Professor Mower is very liberal. There is a lot of reading and writing for this class, like weekly page-long essays on the readings. She usually allows for rewrites and is generally very chill. She loves class discussion but will not help you if you don't bring forth your own ideas. Good teacher.

Class with Dr.Mower was great. Always had great discussions and she really made it feel like a safe place to share. Isn't a stickler on writing assignments and just wants you to improve. Really interesting and contemporary readings. Would recommend her in a heartbeat to anyone looking for a liberal and open-minded professor that knows her stuff

This class was very much about theory and often got a little repetitive. Dr. Mower encourages students to express their opinions and thoughts but doesn't do much teaching, as it is mostly discussion.

101 is a well-rounded class that discusses lots of women's issues. Prof. Mower encourages you to explore your own beliefs and encourages you to evolve them. The class was mostly discussion, which can get boring but I learned a lot about myself in the class.
