He is extremely intimidating during class discussion, but that's only because he is an absolute genius. Very challenging, heavy on the books, heavy on the theory, tough grader. Papers are 60% of the grade, no midterm, easy final. Take him if you're looking for a professor who will change your life.

I hope you have a lot of time on your hands if you're planning to take a class with him. VERY heavy on the reading. With that said, the readings are extremely interesting and he is a very passionate person (after all, he is a Lit Prof who is legally blind and reads through a magnifying glass). Go to his office hours if you can.

I've taken two classes with Chris and he is beyond worth it. He's incredibly intelligent and interested in his subject, which makes a big difference. His readings are some of the most interesting I've ever had. He is a harsh grader, but get over it. If you're an English major, don't leave LUC without taking one of his classes.

Chris is amazing. I'm a gender historian in his English class, and I want to cry with awe and wonder at everything I've learned from him (he's insanely intelligent) that has forever positively changed the way I read history and literature. He's adorable, and I'd say charmingly self indulgent. I want to be as smart as him when/if I grow up.

Beyond smart, very theoretical and abstract- but very interesting. Highly recomended, but be prepared to think!

Most difficult class I've had bc it's so theoretical. Difficult readings that we never really expounded upon by him - would not recommend for the non-theoretical.

Although he's a very smart man, he is very condescending and assumes that his opinions are the only valid ones. He was not very clear when it came to what he expected of us, although he was generally a nice man.

I don't know what you guys are talking about. He's passionate about ideas, runs a good, engaging discussion, is crystal clear, and is a fair grader. Taking his class was a real privilege.

If you are conservative, do not take him. He is liberal minded and expects you to be the same. Reading load was emense and papers are rough. He's a nice guy, and a genius; but that stands in stark contrast to you.

This class has interesting readings, especially if you are liberally minded and interested in feminist politics. Chris is great, he really challenges you to rise up to the workload and use your analytic abilities about the reading.

Not only is Chris Castiglia the best English teacher I have ever had at Loyola, he is the best teacher I have ever had. His lectures are compelling and clear as a whistle. Imaginative thinkers do well in his course.
