Gaffney is a fair professor, but the material is really difficult. He writes the hw and is a tough grader on it. Go to his OH (most tutors in PS 109 won't be able to help you), and definitely attend review sessions! Exams are doable if you do hw and get it. He's funny but also condescending if you ask a question phrased in a way he doesn't like.

Although a little self-absorbed, he makes good use of it. I don't know how to explain it. It's like his ego is made of modern physics, and he himself is the vessel to teach you the material like he is pulling the blindfold off of your face. Try to figure out why part of his ear is missing... I'm checking you, Rate My Professor! I need an answer!

Steer clear of this guy. Unless you like to learn from the book, then you will have a rough time trying to pass this class unless you are a straight A kind of student. This guy cares more about doing his research than he does about teaching you physics. I'd choose another professor.

I took this class because I had to (stupid CSUC upper-division GE...); regardless, I enjoyed it from the first moment to the end. Professor Gaffney is an AWESOME lecturer. He knows his material inside and out, and his energy level is incredible. A great experience overall, one I heartily recommend even if you don't have to take it.

Terrible teacher, his tests are almost impossible due to the fact that his practice exams have nothing to do with the actual exams. His reviews sessions are worthless as well, he acts as if you should know the material. Do not take his summer session class because he is never available to help.

Extremely hard, though I suppose it's expected. a 55/100 is passing on exams, so that's cool...though I've scored below 55 on 2 of the 3 exams. He's helpful in and out of class and seems to be truly interested in what he teaches and wants you to learn.

Gaffney is extremely hard, I learned alot from him. Over half of the class failed. Your entire grade is tests and the tests are extremely hard.

Chris is very good teacher. He love PHYS, but his tests are very dard 10% of the class could pass it. How ever if you attend the clas, do the Homework, and the labs you will not get F or D. However, 2 to 3 people in the class will get an A.

One of the best teachers I ever had. explains everything well. extremely energetic around the end of the semester, possibly due to a sugar high or maybe a gas leak in his office. helpful during office hours but disappears during the lab. test are long but its graded on a slight curve.

What a privilege to take physics from Gaffney. If you can't understand electricity and magnetism, just maybe it is YOUR problem! The whiners and goof-offs rate this guy negatively. You will need to work as this ain't softball. Very, very helpful! Some of these negative ratings are obviously from so-called students.

For the most part, a good professor. Explains material well. Very insightful and enthusiastic. However, after volunteering and idea in class, I was ridiculed by Gaffney for being wrong. So much so, that I will not be returning to class. Avoid Gaffney if wish to voice your opinion freely. If your looking to listen to a talking head, not a bad class.

Good and clear lecturer. Sets up example problems in class just like he wants it on tests. No gap between material covered and material tested. Does tend to answer a question with a question, not to be a jerk, but to try to make you think.

Good lecturer, nice person. Doesn't directly answer questions. Screws you on tests: tests on stuff you didn't go over. Killer HW. Do yourself a favor and take a 4X class!!! You can pass this class.
