I had Dr. Sacchi for intro to bio and env bio. I would not recommend taking him for lab as he will keep you until the LAST minute every class. In lecture he's a decent teacher and I think the criteria and exams are fair. He hates cell phones and when students that come in late to class, but overall pretty nice guy.

Prof. Sacchi seems kind. His lectures can be described as boring; however, I did learn some interesting material from his class. His tests are very hard. He doesn't put up PP slides after each lecture -- he puts them up after a full chapter has been taught. He gives pop quizzes, if you are late you will miss it. Online HW will be posted on Connect.

The class wasnt too hard but you do need to study to pass. Gives short 3 question quizzes in beginning of class sometimes so if your late you wont get the grade. He takes attendance every day and its part of your grade. Good guy but strict with his phone policy. Overall good professor for a intro class.

Lectures are boring and long. Notes are kind of all over the place. I emailed him 3 times for help studying and he never responded. I always get A's and I got a C in this class because the tests were outrageous, especially test 3, which I failed and I never failed a test in my life ever before until now. This was also my 2nd C a got ever in my life

Dr. Sacchi is a very knowledgeable person and is very passionate about biology. You need to go to class and he takes attendance everyday. Sometimes gets annoying with being so strict as a professor and his hatred for cell phones, but is teaching methods really help you understand the subject.

He's not for everyone, but I liked him. He's very orderly. He does things like require students to sit in the same seat every day, and makes you stay for at least half an hour after tests are administered so everyone has 30 minutes guaranteed where they can work in silence. A little OCD, but a great professor. His lectures are clear.

Sacchi teaches in a manner where if you show up to class and take notes you'll be fine. The course is easy, lectures are engaging, and he can explain material that may be confusing at first. His knowledge about the course is minimal, and Sacchi can be a "standardized professor " at times. Anyone can pass this class but you can't go the extra mile.

Dr. Sacchi is a great professor because he presents and expands on the subject, clarifies when asked, and clearly knows biology well. He is an amazing person because he takes time out of his schedule to help you when asked, is kind, and generous. I wish more professors were like him.

His tests are the worst. He is so punctual on grading that you could get a .8 out of 2 points here and 1.3 out of 5 points there. At first it doesn't seem like a big deal but when you think about it, 1 out of 2 points is 50% (failing). To make it even less than that adds up to a nightmare. What makes matters worse is that the tests are so subjectiv

Nice Guy. Knows his stuff. Tests are pretty difficult, but it's on fair material. He gives good lectures and is willing to help, but he also expects you to work hard for your grade. Go to class, take good notes, study hard and you'll do fine.

Dr. Sacchi has been my Prof for several classes at KU and he's been one of my favs. He's a great teacher, encourages class participation, and doesn't just read from PowerPoint slides (a pet-peave of mine w/ some profs). He lectures at a good pace and clarifies when asked and goes out of his way to help students, even out of class. I recommend him!

So this professor is hot and cold with me. He is very animated with this class and probably the nicest guy outside of lecture. The part that gets to me is that he is authoritarian and one of those professors where his lectures will do little help and you are FAR better off reading the bok on your own. If I had a choice, i would choose another prof.

I had Dr. Sacchi for principles of bio and he was a good professor. Having class at 8 am is hard, but he made it somewhat interesting. He cares about his students and wants everyone to do well. He is willing to discuss lecture material in his office or after class, he'll adjust his schedule for you. He was a good professor, I would recommend him!

I've had Sacchi for three classes. He is very nice and def has a large knowledge base but can get a little off topic during lectures. His tests are meant to make you think about the material not just memorize facts. He wants to make sure you are learning which can be a little tedious but he's really passionate.

I really like Prof. Sacchi. I've had him for two classes so far: Principles of Bio and Botany, and I received A's in both. He's very helpful - always willing to answer questions during lecture and office hours - plus review sessions b4 every exam. His lectures follow the books, which have been a little scattered. But he's always clarified for us.

He is a great adviser, always helpful. In lecture he's very scattered and unorganized. It takes him awhile to return papers and post grades. Talks way to long in lab. His multiple choose questions can be tricky and always to the supplemental readings!

Sacchi has been one of the best teachers I've had at KU. He's really passionate about his subject and really wants you to do well. He grades on attendance occasionally and the textbook is absolutely necessary. I can't wait to take him again!

Agree with the former post. Needlessly complex exams that reflect more on a students ability to solve botany-themed riddles than to actually demonstrate factual knowledge. You will spend the lab periods coloring with crayons, as any interest you may have had in the subject dies.

Pretty ridiculous for a 100 level intro bio course. We had an average score of 55 on our lab practical and and low C's for every exam. Only 6 people (out of 116 total) got an A on the final exam. I started this course enthused, and ended it pretty much defeated by the lab and exam grading. Essentially, no amount of studying will get you an 'A.'
