If you aren't willing to put in multiple hours into this class, do not take this professor. Really hard and frustrating class. A lot of homework that doesn't make sense. Theres a lot of money that is used for textbooks and codes. He is very smart but doesn't explain concepts clearly. A LOT of people dropped or failed. Started w 40, ended with 10

Gives online homework that can get very frustrating at times. Lectures are problems from the book, exams are nothing like it. Just read the book.

I took professor Valiotis for engineering 230. Professor Valiotis tought the class extremely well which is not easy to do considering how advanced some topics can get. His tests are hard but not impossible, he will ensure you know the content well and grades very fair.

On week-15 of the semester, "This class is the subject of a research experiment; how do community college students perform on exams that are given to students at Harvard." Ummm, okay....Harvard students know that they're being given Harvard exams; community college students do not. Lots of Fs because of this stunt. I got an A only because I'm OCD.

I took Mr. V for every class I could; Phys. 110, 120, & Engr. 230. I'm about to graduate from CSULB with a degree in Computer Engr. If you're complaining now, change your major. Otherwise, pony up and come to love the pain, even go as far as asking Mr. V, may I have another? Mr. V has a method to his madness. Oh ya, congrats on the Hayward Award

Phyics and Engr are hard! If u plan on this field, u must be ready to work. Mr. V's passion for subject is contagious. Took him for Phys110/120/Engr230. Always ready to help, but won't do work for u. Uses Socratic method: responds to ? with ? to make u think and find ur own answer. Sometimes frustrating but the key to good prob solving.(I'm not V)

All the people below me that are claiming he is too hard, arrogant, or does not teach the material are not serious about physics. He is not too hard. He explains everything in class that you need to know. There is a lot of hw, but if you are serious about being an engineer it's all necessary to know. Lazy students will not do well.

I had him for 101. He is the only bad teacher I have had at AVC. He does not lecture, he expects you to do it all in your groups. Massive amounts of homework. He does not do the work himself, and the tests are harder than the homework.

I had Mr. Valiotis for PHYS 110, and he was amazing. Clear, Precise, Just the Right Amount of Work. But this semester, bad bad bad. Yes it is a hard course, and yes there is not enough time to teach it well, but when you do NO problems even similar to what is worth any amount of points on the test, that is a little over kill. Oh out early everyday.

A lot of work is given. There is lab homework, context rich problems, chapter workbook problems, chapter quizzes, optional online homework that is given to replace a bad test. The tests are difficult. He asks a lot of questions to our questions. You really have to study a lot unless if physics is your thing.

MASSIVE amount of homework. get a tutor to explain b/c he is too busy trying to prove he knows everything that he can't teach you. arrongant? definitely. says he's there to help but won't explain to completion. pair up with someone who has taken the class before. i guarantee there will be a few. there were at least 10 in my class.oh, and good luck!

Great instructor. Had him for Phys 110 and 120 and ENGR 230. He tries to get you to understand the concepts by asking you questions. This was great for me b/c that's how I learn best. He also beats the concepts to death with homework, but you can pass if you don't do it all.

A great hands on approach to the world that we live in. Has a minor accent but explained everything with clarity and empathy. His course was definitely NOT easy but it wasn't impossible either. I enjoyed the class a lot more than I thought I would. Great for understanding a little more about the crazy world we live in.

Hard information, a lot of homework, and a lot of studying, but that's what I expected going in. He makes a difficult subject do-able. I enjoyed the class even though I only sc****d by... honestly I could have tried harder.

Love the passion he teaches with! Difficult subject, but he makes it fun. If you solve problems the way he does, equations first, then fill in the varibles, it's easier. I think we'll all appreciate him more when we move on up to a university!

There is a LOT of homework in this class, to say the least. This does help to boost your grade though. I found the tests to be extremely difficult, as each test covers about 3 or 4 chapters worth of physics material. Very helpful outside of class though, especially through email. Do not take if you do not like online homework.

My god, the amount of homework! First weekend, he gave lab notebook, textbook reading, worksheets, online test, and online workbook. JUST DOING THE WORKBOOK was 91 different word questions, and took me 4 hours, and I had taken physics before. My honors math class for 5 credits gave about 1/8th the hw his class did for 3 credits. DONT TAKE VALIOTIS

One of the most difficult professors ever had, but grading scheme very fair. Contagiously passionate about subject. Always willing to help even outside offc. hrs. Tests much harder than homework but count for lower % of final grade, esp if u r willing to do the tons of online work & extra cred (which add an extra letter grade). Count on study grp.
