He was funny and well prepared, but he would go off topic and was organized so I was always lost. And he never used any books so it was hard to study for his essay exams which sucked.

He is very funny and is passionate about the topic he talks about. Also he reminds me of the great NBA-player Bill Walton with his stories and mannerisms.

Professor Schaefer is extremely into the topic of the class. Stories about his experiences in international aid are insightful and interesting, albeit not related at times. Overall I was happy with this class and would suggest it for a cultural diversity gen ed.

I loved him! although I could not see him teaching anything besides African studies. he would lecture most of class and not once look at notes. i found him very interesting and although he does go off on tangents they somehow related. i would recommend for anyone who wants a prof that has lived what s/he is teaching. knows his stuff

While asking for help with one of my papers telling about how I lost a close friend of mine, he asked if we had shared any romantic feelings, implying that I am a lesbian, which I am not. Barely kept to the schedule, repeated goes off on random tangents not related to the texts and have no real value to them. Avoid for Core!!!

The class is called European Imperialism and the Colonial Experience. Unfortunately the entire focus is on Colonial India. He's very indecisive, and horrible when it comes to keeping on schedule. I would have dropped the class if I could have found another class to balance my schedule. Oh and enjoy your 15 page historical research paper.

All about giving A-'s but will give an A if you put in extraordinary effort. Very accomadating and a decent lecturer. Can get sidetracked easily though.

Nice guy, but is a boring lecturer and doesn't understand that not everyone knows as much about Africa as he does. Is also vague about papers and tests.

Nice guy, but the class wasn't entirely useful. It was supposed to be 20th Century World History, but he talked about Africa for a good 75% of the semester, and skimmed over WWII in a day or two. The course title was misleading, to say the least!
