If you are a serious student, Chuck is your man! If you come for the easy grade, stay away. He is a dedicated professional teacher who will listen to your opinion and give his opinion:count on it. That's what it's about: Have an opinion and be able to defend it. Dry sense of humor and willing to us it! Man knows his politics. Bank on it.

I had him for POSC 100, & realized that I also needed POSC 101...needless to say I took him again! He is very dry and boring during lectures, but is everything he says important? Only if you want to pass! He doesn't try to hide the fact that he is a Democrat, but at the same time does not bash others. Not recommended for those who want an easy A.

This guy has serious problems with pushing his views down your throat. He is brutal on grading essays and he is extremely boring at lectures. He cannot stay focused on the subject at hand and taking notes isn't helpful. His tests are intentionally hard and the majority gets low grades. Avoid him at all cost unless you think like him then go for it.

I had Professor Smith for race and gender and I had heard a lot of negative comments about his teaching style before I entered the classroom. Boy! Were those people wrong! I thought Smith insightful, engaging, and really wanting to get students to push the limits of their thoughts and beliefs. I enjoyed him as an instructor.

warning...don't come if you don't want to learn! He is NOT a babysitter nor a cake teacher, but he does know his onions! One of the very best in WV in his area..by far...for serious student only..great sence of dry humor...if you want to learn PS, go, if you want an easy pass, stay away..leave him to the leaders

Are you kidding me? This class was an absolute waste of my time and money. He states in this class that "religion"-what he means is Christianity-has no place. Also, one of the chapters in the book is called, "The Bible and Homosexuality", and religion has no place in this class. Now if the title were, "The Koran and Homosexuality"...Yea, Right!

Chuck Smith is an extremely liberal professor. He doesn't respect the views of his students. His grading differed on on two of my tests. He graded one definition of Federalism as good and gave me full credit, but on another test that exact same definition was wrong, he could not give me a clear reason why!

He is very kind and willing to help. In the beginning this course is really hard, but then it gets way too easy. This class is easy after the first month. Chuck wants you to word things exactly as he would. There are tons of extra credit points available. Exams are relatively simple. He is the ideal example of the absent-minded professor though.
