Comment:
Dr. Staicer was not one of my favourite profs at dal. I found her to be a little dry to listen to, and I didn't find her to be a very engaging prof. On the plus side her lecture notes were awesome, and her test questions came directly from the notes - no extra reading required. Though you do have to go to class to make sure you get good notes.

Great prof. Really helpful, you can always email her and she replies instantly. Can be tough and she tries to cram everything into a short amount of time but she isn't too hard on marking per say. Just really nice although she might not show it unless you get to talk to her.

I like prof Staicer a lot. She has a great compassion for wildlife so her class keeps me interested. Some of the material seems dull, but when compared to other classes you can expect the same in uni... She knows a lot, and she opens up when you have a question she's interested with! Also hear she will be running a class in the tropics, how cool!

Coming to university, I had thought my professors would be motivated, knowledgeable in their field, and most importantly, inspiring. Prof. Staicer was none of the above. Her assessments are a dull copy of her powerpoints, if you cantdont enjoy memorizing, you will hate it. I came in with a serious interest in bio, now leaving hating the subject

Worst lectures I have ever sat through. Confusing, unbearable, Cindy doesn't know how to use a power point. She asks a lot of questions, but doesn't give time for people to answer them. Expects us to learn an outrageous amount of information. Not enthusiastic about her job. Is very abrasive.

Comment:
Cindy struggles to use the technology she brings to class to present power points. Very rarely does a class go by without her accidentally clicking the back button and not knowing how to fix it for the next four minutes, at which point the class devolves into chaos. She does not grade ANYTHING, including a report we wrote in October (it is March)

I was recruited from a different province to take DISP, and it's been a disappointment. This prof is horrible. She's always unprepared, late, forgetful, and downright rude and DRY! I've seen her belittle other students too if they have a Q. At the same time, she treats us like children in that her lecture slides are nothing but a review of hs bio.

The best teacher in DISP, a program that isn't offered anywhere else. She is extremely knowledgable, and a VERY dedicated mentor. Very pretty too.

Coming back to write this some time after I took her classes, but Cindy is one of the best professors that Dal has to offer! Her knowledge is inspiring. I felt like she really cared about my success as a student and her efforts always reflected it! Love her! These less than positive reviews are probably from miserable kids who can't cut science.

This prof was terrible. She showed little to no interest in the class and her lectures showed it, they were long and dry. This prof turned an engaging easy subject into a painful struggle for her students. She tested us on material that was not covered in lecture at all. I do NOT recommend this prof.

VERY bad teacher, Avoid having her if you can. She is absolutely the worst at communicating with students. She knows her subject (birds) very well but has a very hard time communicating the knowledge she knows. She patronized me and made me feel stupid. Horrible professor.

Definitely has birds on the brain, loves them, especially finches! Decent teacher, helpful when you ask questions for the most part, but when she posts her slides online she takes things out/leaves blanks so that you have to come to class to get the full notes. Tests are good for the most part, sometimes have really stupid and difficult questions.

Fantastic teacher. She can be slow to warm up to you. But once she gets to know you she is super helpful. She is extremely well-versed in her area of expertise. Overall best teacher I've had a Dal.

Found that her classes weren't always mandatory. He lecture notes were always posted on OWL, and as long as you read the textbook sections you could spend the two hours of her course doing something more productive. Good for providing information resources.

Ornithology is the best class I have taken thus far. Your interest in birds increases at least 10 fold. Dr. Staicer really makes you have an understanding and respect for the winged beauties. When you go outside after the class you know what species are singing and calling. Walking in the woods is not the same anymore!

Not my favorite prof. She just reads her powerpoint, although it has everything you'll need to know on it. She gets mixed up with her own material sometimes making things unclear. The worst part is her lack of communication skills. People would ask questions while the room was quiet, and she would blankly stare at them for a moment and not respond.

Can you say unprepared?? Arrives to lectures late and looked like she was in a hurry to get started, then she just reads the lecture slides (something anyone can do) and when she notices that there is only 15 min left and she still has half the lecture to read she just quickly goes through it, that happened almost every single lecture.

Well. Staicer. Yup, knows her birds, but nothing else. Gets defensive. Easy and difficult to deal with (you would have to know her to understand) Tests were either a breeze or retarded. I have a lot of thoughts about her, but you have to experience her to really understand. All I can say is that she is definitely her own cup o' tea.

The woman loves her finches. Could probably make them do her bidding. But besides that, she is alright, but isn't very knowledgeable on things that are not part of environmental biology. Ask her a question, she ignores it, or answers another question that has nothing to do with your question. Test questions usually are coming from left field.
