Comment:

Great lectures and content. Easy to talk to outside of class. Heavy readings but they are interesting and powerful. Definitely go to class for the discussion. I highly recommend this class to people interested in another perspective in history and gender and race studies.

If you stay on track with the readings (which are great books and easy reads), engage in class, you will do fine. She is a respectable professor, with enlightening views, she is openminded to your outlook as long as you remain respectful as well. I was able to take what I learned and apply it to my life - its a good course for self growth.

Dr. Hudson-Weems is an educator that goes above and beyond her job. She truly cares about her students and helps them foster a sense of self as well as challenge them on what they've been taught in their college career. She is a woman that does everything in her power to see her students succeed as long as you're willing to do the work.

As an exchange student, I was so inspired by her lectures. Her ideas about African American Literature was broad and she always led us straight to the point. The way how she made us study effectively was also really helpful. Through providing essential knowledge during class, giving oral reports and getting feedback was a great way to get the point

Always shows up late, talks about herself the whole time, doesn't take attendance. Beware of speaking up against her skewed world views cause she ain't afraid of making you cry. Not even sure if her ideas are hilarious or just plain sad. Honestly no idea how she got in this position - she super qualified, somehow, but boy does she disappoint.

I had a terrible experience in this class. The professor was unorganized and often late. She cancelled every quiz, postponed our only exam until after Thanksgiving, and the final grades were arbitrary. She was not open to students' questions or opinions. She talked about herself for the majority of the class time.

She's an incredible person and her research field is obviously a source of pride for her, but we literally didn't do anything except a midterm that she wasn't present for, (gone often) and most of the class cheated on. She then administered a new exam. Didn't watch half of the final presentations. Also talks about herself far too much during class

I took my first class with Dr. Hudson-Weems this past semester and it was nothing short of a life-changing course. She has an extensive résumé and it shows by how knowledgeable she is about what she teaches. She genuinely cares about her students and will work with you if you are concerned about your grade. Make sure you do your readings!

You will never find a professor more knowledgeable and passionate in Black Studies than Clenora. I would recommend that every single student take a class with Clenora. She is sweet, and she truly cares about her students. She makes such an effort to make sure you learn something. 11/10 would recommend this class.

I've learned more about Black Studies in Theorizing Literature than I've learned in my entire life. Dr. Weems is very motherly and knowledgeable. I'm grateful that I was in the presence of such an iconic woman. She doesn't mind helping students in and out of the classroom

I loved this class! Clenora was a great help to me inside of the class as well as outside of the classroom. The knowledge that I've gained from her has helped me in my relationship and my understanding of my culture. If you take this class come with an open mind. You will not look at things the same after taking her class.

Vey knowledgable but is also unorganized. She will expect you to do the readings with no direction in class whatsoever. If you don't read and do poorly on the test she will browbeat the entire class and make up stories about someone reporting her to the dean instead of taking responsibility for her lack of teaching.

Iconic woman. Most of class is spent listening to her tell stories about her life and experiences. She is very busy, so if you need help, you might have to go out of your way to reach her outside of class. She doesn't use email or Blackboard. She doesnt use Blackboard or email. Make sure you read, might be pop quizzes. Also get on her good side.

I loved her class! She was a fun spirit and definitely helped with the ways that I looked at life and things around campus. She has a very strong personality, so if you're a timid person -- prepare yourself. But I came out learning a lot from her class, as long as you listen to her and pay attention, READ, then you should do fine!

Dr. Hudson-Weems is eccentric and loves to talk about her work, but she has earned the right to do so through her work. I found this class to be the best english class I have taken at Mizzou. She is extremely knowledgable and while often gets off subject, she always finds a way to bring it back and be interesting while still teaching.

Prof Hudson-Weems understands life better than most professors. She is not going to stress you out over anything she is probably the most kind, caring, real, and understanding professor I have ever had. That is not to say this is an easy class, she expects that you at want to learn or else you wouldn't have signed up and will hold you accountable
