I liked his examples in class. He is a much more coherent lecturer than Prof. Herndon, and at least his examples can appear on the exam or help out with discussion quizzes. Still definitely need to read the book. Too bad he's retiring from teaching.

Professor Sprott is the man. It's a shame he's retired, because he's a great professor. He really cares about physics and makes it really interesting with all the cool demonstrations. You absolutely need to read the book to do well in this class, though!

his lectures get a bit all over the place, make sure you read the book and you should be fine though, loves to do demonstrations, writes equations all over board

How to pass Sprott's class: Read the book! Trust me, it will help your class performance in the long run. Do ALL practice exams before each exam. The problems in the book/online homework and exams are structured completely differently. There's no other way to get the practice you need for them. Hated this class, but eventually did really well.

lectures were mostly unhelpful. he'd write a few equations on the board and then do a ton of demonstrations. hope that u get a good TA so u can better understand the material.mine was a JOKE,i only went to disc for quizzes. my fav TA quote at a 745a lab: "i dont know what we're sposed to do so i'm just pulling this outta my ass"

Comment:
Lecture is pretty much pointless. Sprott rambles, writes equations on the board, and then does a couple useless demonstrations. Hope for a TA that will actually teach you in discussion, othewise you'll be teaching yourself physics. Labs are pointless, but mandatory and discussions are generally helpful. do the practice exams.

Sprott is a bit boring. He knows his stuff, but often does not present it well in lecture. A good TA is a must-have. I recommend reading the book and doing the practice questions (which I should have done). 104 is more difficult than 103. Overall I hate physics, regardless of professor.

He's pretty good - lots of cool demos and all you really need from lecture are the equations he puts on the board. I thought 104 was easier than 103 because it's a lot more of just plugging in numbers to the equations, but maybe it's just cuz I'm used to him now. He's not so bad, but it still sucks to take physics. You can't avoid that.

Great demonstrations, but kind of a jerk to students. Makes you feel stupid if you ask a question. I thought he was a pretty good lecturer, but not a nice guy outside of class.

One of the most boring lecturers ive had at the university. Lecturers are pretty pointless and dont really help you with the tests or homework. Labs are a joke. You need to go to section because that is where you actually learn the material. Exams have a lot of reused questions from previous exams.

Not so bad, but I think that physics lectures are pointless. Make sure you get yourself a really good TA. His tests weren't awful either...make sure you do ALL the practice tests...there are a lot of repeat questions.

Very analytical lectures. Speaks kind of complicated. You can understand what he says, but it takes away from teaching effectiveness. Puts some equations on the board throughout lecture and how to derive them (which you don't have to know) and the rest is him speaking at you. Average professor.

Seems nice enough, far more than Smith, but lectures are pretty boring. Exams are fair, lots of people complain but you're either good at physics or you're not, it's just one of those subjects. One gripe though, the curve hurt the class on one exam. Curve is mean of 80, stdev of 10, so 17% A's. Exams are 20 MC ?'s.

He seems like a nice guy, but his lectures are boring and pointless. He never shows you how to do problems and you are then confused with the homework. However, the curve in the class makes things better.

This guy's an a**hole. He lectures to students like we're in 6th grade and then gives us exam questions that are never seen before. Not an approachable guy. Your only hope is if you have a good TA otherwise you're screwed.

Took both. And hated it. He won't meet for office hours and his lectures are full of ramble. Half the time there are somewhat pointless demos, basically so he can show off. If you're going to take 103/104 make sure to have a different prof or a really good TA.

I totally hate this man. He is the worst lecturer I've ever had and doesn't teach anything useful. I taught myself pretty much everything I know from that class. I'm happy just to have passed. He expects you to make huge leaps between what he teaches and what he asks you.
