I took this class in the fall of 2008 and he is the absolute worst teacher that I have ever had. He doesn't care about anything except politics. Dr. Benton plus politics equals BY 101 in his book.

He is a genius but probably should not be teaching lower level students, as most will not appreciate his motives or methods. I have been graduated from JSU since 1994, but it seems Dr. Benton hasn't changed a bit!

I am now a senior, and I took this class during fall 06. I have yet to have another professor as horrible as Dr. Benton. He is unnecessarily difficult and hateful at times. He tested on facts he did not teach. I pulled off a B in the class, but it was hard. If you have for some reason scheduled a class with him, RUN NOW!!!!

I have never had a professor who graded so strictly. VERY HARD. Cares if you are even 1 minute tardy, very opinionated and dull. I changed my minor bc of his class. I am an A student and I got a D on his first test. Ridiculously hard. Avoid him.

The WORST professor I have EVER had. His lectures were mainly opinions. If you aren't that good at biology then you can't understand what he's talking about. Does not care about you or your grades. Tests were not out of the book, his lectures, or the review he gives.

Yes. His class is hard, but all you have to do is listen. If you listen and take down the key facts-- then study them a few times before the test you will do fine. He is very nice and will help you after class-- just ask him what to study and he will tell you!! and yes over population is always the answer with him :) lol

Very difficult! He never delivers his lecture the same way - one day notes are by Powerpoint, next day by lecture. He's very opinionated and obviously liberal - main concerns about overpopulation and global warming. His tests are difficult even though they are multiple choice. Even though he's nice, he's not helpful - I would not recommend!

Dr. Benton is an absolute genius. He has very educated/radical opinions and I found his class to be extremely enlightening. If you are interested in BY take him, you will learn LOADS about the world around you. (Even if his exams were written on mars.) lol. The secret to passing his tests is to simply read the book.

His way of teaching is not easy. He gives you notes but for the test , you hsve to use the book. he only gives 4 tests and no homework or extra credit to cushion your grade and his tests are kind of confusing.
