Not for everyone, but if you show up to class, participate, and make it clear you want to work hard she'll work with you to give you the grade you deserve. Always do the reading, she'll give you quizzes over it every day and you'll only get the answers if you read. If you go to her OHs and ask questions/for help on essays she'll respect you for it.

Very hard exams that consist of matching specific quotes from long passages of reading to the author. She also grades very harshly. I got straight As in all of my English/Literature classes until I took hers. Avoid at all costs.

No mercy. She does not allow any excused or unexcused absences. If your mom dies, get ready to lose points for everything that you miss.

She never hands anything back on time. She grades the way that she sees fit; however, she never specifies what she is looking for.

Gives no clarity on any of her assignments and never tells you when assignments are due. Gave a (graded) quiz in class of everyone's name in a class with 30+ students. In class we read vague literature and "analyze" it. To analyze the literature you have to interpret it with her particular interpretation. Exams are hard and beware of pop quizzes.

learning is done outside of the class with your assignments, come to class to gain clarity and practical experience with literary analysis. The class is challenging, but Dr. Warren designs it in a step-by-step process where you can go from zero experience writing about literature to feeling confident about your own opinions.

I took American Literature over J-Term with Dr. Warren and I loved the class. Participation is key to getting a good grade, as well as keeping up on the reading material. She is really passionate about her work and she is willing to hear out our opinions of the text. Loved the class and would recommend all students to take it as a gen ed.

Poor clarity and even poorer teaching. Gives some useless assignments to just take up out time. Definitely a feminist. Seems as if she enjoys putting student's down. One of the worst classes I have ever take.

YOU HAVE TO DO THE READING. Don't expect to skim and do well in her class. However, I loved the format. Never lecture, all discussion, and I learned so much. I loved this class, one of my favorites at Taylor so far. She challenges you to think deeper than usual, but as long as you put some effort into it, she gives you a fair grade. Great class!

I had her for expository writing. We only had to write four papers, and we were able to choose the topics, so that wasn't too bad. She has a way of belittling students without meaning to though, so beware. Very smart, and she knows it. Tough grader. Class discussions are very interesting though!

She cares about students and is helpful. Overall she does not seem to value opinions that differ from her own. Whether they be related to literature or not. She has strong feminist undertones in her teaching which is fine but sometimes the class feels more like an environment of indoctrination than learning. Regurgitate her views and you'll do ok.

She is a strict grader. Also, her classes are mostly survey style, which means you don't delve into any author very much. We spent several classes talking about predestination, namely because she disagreed with everyone else in the class, which was annoying. But she made each person in the class a plate of cookies around Christmas time.

Extremely challenging prof and very strict. Whether she is or not, she comes off as being very feminist in her teaching and is extremely opinionated as well. Grades extremely hard on the papers that you submit and normally allows her personal opinions and beliefs to strongly influence her grading. Avoid this prof if possible-hardest Gen-Ed!

While she is an extremely nice person, she is fairly scatterbrained and never seems to give a clear definition of her assignments. She grades extremely hard, especially considering her lack of explanation. She gives readings and grades on content questions only, as well as rarely discussing anything deeper than basic content. Avoid this prof.

Make sure you INTERPRET the quotes - DO NOT summarize the stories. It doesn't matter if you know everything that happened in the story. If you can't interpret what it means = you fail.
