My class didn't have recitation. Reality hit me after exam 1, 59. Thought I should drop but I studied hard and took myself to recitation voluntarily. The material isn't impossible and Darvennes isn't a bad teacher. Don't listen to negativity! Just review the lecture material and work the recitation problems. I am not a brainiac! Just apply yourself

Comment:

Two days a week you sit in a boring lecture of her just copying her own notes. Then you have recitation once a week and spend 3 hours attempting to complete problems you don't know how to do because you didn't learn in lecture. She's the only one who teaches Dynamics which makes it worse. Go to class, get tutoring, study, get old test to review!

If you aren't a mechanical engineering major, stay away. She is terrible at explaining everything and hardly ever gets to examples. You are pretty much on your own. Her final is not passable and her questions on others tests are so confusing she has to explain them. Just try to get someone else, trust me.

This professor is the worst one I have ever had. She put some material on a homework that we didn't get to finish covering in class. The tests took almost 3-4 weeks to grade. Do not take her if you can help it.

Structure of the class is two lectures and one recitation per week. You have between 6-7 homework problems each week and they're graded by your class mates in recitation each week. During recitation you will work 4-7 problems (can work in groups). You learn more in the recitation that is taught by the TA's than from Dr. Darvenes. Very hard class.

I had her for Dynamics. The class is tough, so people just dogging her for no reason are not good reviews to go by. GO TO CLASS! you have tests, which are worth the most, but everything else is basically a test. I never made higher than a 66 on a test, and made a C in the class. study the stuff, learn the formulas and don't rely on the final.

She definitely knows her stuff, but the new structure to teaching dynamics is not great. All she does in class is cover the formulas while going through a PPT. One day a week, there is a recitation class to go work problems for 2 hours. She's very helpful during that time, but going to lecture feels pointless. Overall good professor.

The class isn't too bad after a few weeks, once she gets to know the class (she takes the time to learn everyone's names) she is actually a pretty cool professor. She is VERY helpful if you go to her during her office hours. 3 homework problems EVERY day (in dynamics) and daily quizzes that are based off the homework. I would retake her class.

Class started out pretty rough, but she responded to the class's troubles and slowed down a bit. She's very helpful if you work with her and is really great once you get to know her. I would recommend her and I plan on taking her again. MatLab is VERY important, so learn it well. Oh, and there's a mix of paper and computer tests

Dr. Darvennes is a very good teacher. Maybe not great, but far better than some I've been subjected to. She has the patience to answer even the repeat questions from the "slower" students. Her requirements are very clear, as is her teaching style. Homework isn't collected, but the daily quiz WILL be one of the assigned HW probs.

Took her for dynamics and hated her. Then i took her for noise control and thought she was one of the best professors I have ever had. This is her area of specialty and she used a much better teaching method and was way easier. Take someone else for low level classes and take her senior level classes.

This is for her DMC class, because Pardue's was too big (pun, haha). So, pretty much the entire class doesn't know what's going on. She'll work problems, and we don't know what any of the symbols are or what she's doing. I don't know what I've done in there so far, and there's only 3 weeks left. Lose-lose situation in my case for this class. BAD!

Comment:

She lectures once or twice during every test cycle, and the rest of the time is spent working problems. The class pairs off and works problems while she circles the room answering questions and redirecting lost students. I went to every lecture, did HW, studied for exams, made an A. The exams are curved - I had 82/100 raw score, but 100% on test.
