I took both (Genetics and Virology) as free electives - the BEST bio professor in LU! His lectures are so interesting! You have to know a lot of details for exams but he TELLS you what to memorize! Those who quit pre-med because of a bad grade in his class: news flash - pre-med is HARD - what did you expect???

Many students are understandably angry at how he designed the tests, consisting of questions demanding random data/words that, to many student, are unreasonably left-field. HOWEVER, one important factor allows, if not favors, his such method of examination...

Not a good teacher by any means and puts questions on exams that were NEVER covered in any lectures. I went to all of his office hours and every one of his lectures. I put in 110% effort and got a D for my efforts. When I went to ask Sands what I did wrong, he told me I was a poor student.

Professor Sands exemplifies the ineptitude of our Biology Dept at Lehigh University. His teaching methods are terrible as he was very difficult to follow. His exams were extremely difficult and did not reflect what he told us to study. In addition, he has his favorites, and if you are not one of them, good luck passing! He will ride you all year!

Prof. Sands is very enthusiastic in his teaching, clear, easy, and humorous. I never found myself falling asleep in his class and I never dread of going to his lectures. He has clear expectations for his students and he boils the materials down for people to understand. One of the easiest biology courses I've ever taken.

I came into this class a Pre-Med, left a Business Major. This proves he cannot teach the material. Homework was useless and exams were extremely difficult. His lab was a joke too. He made me do the final project by myself because he thought I did not contribute to the group. Stay away from this guy!

Worst teacher I've had at lehigh so far. Teaches the class likes were middle schoolers and then gives a graduate level test based on knowing every little fact hes ever said or in the book. He takes thes easiest thing from a chapter and lectures on repeating the same sentence over and over so he doesnt have to deal with the hard stuff and question

Prof. Sands is absolutley unfair. I quit pre-med because of this ****. When I went to see him for office hours, he told me I had no chance to pass. During the exams, he would make me sit away from the Indian students. What a crock of ****?? Plus, he made me do my Genetics Lab Project BY MYSELF because he thought I was too dumb to contribute!

His genetics class is awful. Because he tests you by seeing if you remember random words from his notes, it is possible that you could do very well in the course and learn literally nothing. However, this style of testing also makes it hard to do very well. The lab is just as bad if not worse. Worst class I have had at lehigh.

A great professor. Knows the subject and clearly enjoys working with students. Tests are doable, but I'm told his virology course is pretty tough.

At first I tried to understand the concept of Genetics, but gave that up once I realized he tests you on diagrams and random facts. Memorize the homeworks and any numbers he gives in his notes, and you'll be fine, but don't expect to learn much.

sands is a good teacher who is enthusiastic about the material... he dumbs it down for you, while his tests are harder, but if you go meet with him, he's very helpful! study hard for the tests... know homework, and try study groups (they help)
