I took both classes 151 and 152 with Professor Smith. She is an amazing educator! If you pay attention and listen while she lectures, you will really understand history. You will not be disappointed! And maybe you will end up liking history like I did. She is organized, no surprises when it comes to assignments and most importantly she is fair.

Online class, here's the load- weekly readings from AWESOME web text (clear and concise- never had to use textbook), weekly questions (2 per week, 2-3 paragraphs per q), 2 essays (3 page min, from primary sources and novel), 2 tests (each with fill in the blank, short answers, and essay- NO NOTES). Don't buy the book, do keep up with the work.

Cynthia Smith teaches history by story telling. She is always very enthusiastic in lectures. Assignments due every other week and are usually very simple! You are allowed a little cheat sheet for the midterm and final so that's great. She takes the time to give great feedback on assignments and exams and is always open to answer questions!

Amazing lecture skills. She thoroughly explains everything in context to the reading plus more. Notes are straight forward and easy to follow. Assignments are easy and understandable. Nothing to overwhelming. Gives only midterm and final. Final is not cumulative.

I started with the 151 course, then 152 and 232(WI)WWW. Prof. Smith is very knowledgeable and passionate about teaching history. If you need help, ask her, she will work with you. Assignments and due dates are clearly stated. I think the course load is fair, I used to take 5 classes/semester. If you put in the time and effort, it will pay off.

Her class is not too bad in difficulty but the workload can be a bit much if you're a full time student and not good in history. I personally am pretty weak in history and the amount of time I found myself spending on each assignment was too much for the workload I already had. She's VERY strict on plagiarism so do be careful!

Very difficult class to take online, This class is VERY time consuming. You have NO break whatsoever! There's weekly readings, (3) weekly questions, (2) primary source essays, (2) regular essays, midterm & final. Due dates are too close together! Very harsh on grading & writing. PS: Be prepared to explain in 2-3 paragraph EVERY LITTLE THING!

I was not interested in history at all. After taking HIST-151 she actually made me interested in history. Her web-texts are way better than the text book. I then took her HIST-152. I am actually going to take one of class next semester. Great teacher. Highly Recommended.

But this Professor is very enthusiastic in teaching and knows her stuff! as far as grading, tests, assignments, etc, they're not bad. although you should start on them as soon as she gives them to you. she strictly follows her syllabus so that helps. taking her class again!

It is amazing how all of these reviews say she is a great teacher. I personally disagree. She is very unorganized and unclear in her WWW course. Her Laulima page is very confusing and hard to navigate through. She is also very rude. Not one of my favorite instructors.

Awesome, awesome instructor. Prior to taking her class, I disliked history and everything about it. Because of her amazing way of presenting history to the students, I began to think that I want to be a history instructor just like her. Most people say history is boring. I say the exact opposite - fun and exciting!
