I really do love Cynthia. I have taken her classes before, and will continue to do so. She is a kind and passionate person. If you just do the work, and think beyond what is right in front of you, you will get an A. My only complaint is that she doesn't lecture as much as I would like. I want to hear more from her and less from classmates.

I took her class years ago, and it changed my life. I found some of the reading very tough at the time, but the books stayed with me. Great literature like "To the Lighthouse," "Dubliners," "The French Lieutenant's Woman." Dr. Wong is challenging but deeply compassionate. Can't recommend her highly enough.

She really encourages class discussion, and the novels are well selected, and all very interesting. The reading is very doable considering that its a 4000 level course.

Cynthia is an awesome teacher. She engages students both intellectually but on a personal level. Class discussions fluctuate between literature and student's personal lives. Her papers are demanding. If you are unfamiliar with critical literary theory, or it does not interest you, I would not take her class. Still my favorite prof in English dept.

Cynthia is a demanding but wonderful professor. She expects a lot out of her students, but this not surprising as she mainly teaches 3000 and 4000 level classes. If you do not feel comfortable participating in a high level academic discussion of literature (more than I like this book or I dont like it) stay away. She WILL help with any assignment.

I would've learned more about literary criticism from Wikipedia. Her entire manner is condescending, and her lectures are very unclear. I wouldn't recommend this class to anyone, even if you have a strong interest in literature, this is painful.

Cynthia is a fantastic professor. She truly cares about her students, and their success. If you read the books, do the short assignments, and put effort into your papers, and you will be fine. In fact, you will be rewarded with thoughtful and helpful comments on your work. If you have the chance to take her -- do it! She's one of the best.

She is very unclear about what she wants in test questions; you can answer a question completely and she will grade you poorly and her reasoning will be, "I need you to dig deeper". Fact of the matter is, if you "like" all the texts in her class, brown nose to your fullest potential, and dig way deeper than necessary you'll ace it!

Wong was really hard. She expects a lot from students and the student has to earn their grades. She is hard to meet with outside of class. It is important to take other English classes prior to this one, otherwise it's nearly impossible.

If you're not already read too much into the meanings in books and movies, don't expect any help, and don't expect to get a good grade.
