He is a really great professor! He tells really funny jokes, but stays focused on the content when it matters! He is super caring, and feels really bad and tries to help if you aren't doing well. He will meet with you if you need help, and gives really good advice. If you are looking for a GREAT english class, I would recommend this one!! :)

Dr. Hinson was funny and really great at creating an appreciation for film. "Film Noir" was for a general education art credit and he made the class really care about the content. He had thought provoking questions and made me like some movies that I would never have picked out on my own.

By far one of the best professors I had at Witt. He is engaging and cares about his students. He jokes enough to make you comfortable, but is serious when it matters and actually teaches. He helped my writing improve so much and he always gives plenty of time for papers. A+ for him!

Comment:

Stuck to one topic the entire semester, and read many essays related to this topic. After a while, it got to be repetitive and boring. However, meeting with him for an assignment outside of class proved to be beneficial. Some corny jokes. Stay awake in class, offer some suggestions and attempt papers, or "This dog won't hunt", as he likes to say.

Unless you're on his good side, you'll never get an A on any of your papers. He is very unclear when giving directions and teaching and his grading makes no sense at all. He gets frustrated/angry when the class doesn't laugh at his (bad) jokes. Attendance is mandatory but class is a joke. He talks about crack cocaine every day. Overall terrible.

Any freshmen looking to take their Eng 101 class, save yourself and do not take this class. There is no logic to Hinson's grading of papers and if you are not one of his "favorites" you are garanteed a "C" or lower. His class is the hardest to stay awake in that I have ever had. My paper writing skills have gotten worse, BY FAR! Worst class EVER!
