The class was pretty interesting, similar to a basic geography class rather than oceanography. Field trips are a lot of fun, and the way VanDam lays out info for the class makes it easy to learn (mostly powerpoint).

This guy is the EASIEST Geology teacher at Arc. He types up the notes for you and reads the test over the day before the test so that you know exactly what to study for.Eventhough he is easy, you come away from this class with a good understanding.Impossible to fail his class.He grades on a curve vs letter grade, whichever grade is better he uses.

He knows his stuff, the material is interesting but he has ways of taking all the fun out of most projects or field trips. Also his grading system is strange, the not so bright are able to piggy back their work in lab with the smart folks and get a better grade. He is sometimes unorganized when it comes to letting you know where your grade stands.

Mr. Van dam really knows and enjoys geology and lights up when helping clarify student's questions. Great sense of humor. Lots of group work. Tests are multiple choice-which he goes over the day before. Essay questions(with partner) are given out in advance and due on test day. I loved this class!
