Comment:
Doctor Klain is too smart to be teaching. Goes way too fast in class and gives exams that are material not covered in class. 20 students dropped the class and did not care in the slightest. Avoid this teacher like the plague.

If you end up taking Klain, you're going to be better off learning from sources online or from the text-heavy book. Klain goes way too fast during lectures. Exams are hard, homework somewhat helps and oftentimes lectures don't fully prepare you for exams. If you can't comprehend the material, good luck passing.

just a heads up, if he ever asks for an equation, solving is apparently implied. and he will not budge on any grading. ProbStats was dumb hard with him but the third test is a takehome. goes VERY VERY fast and spends most of the class time finding one equation then asks very different questions on tests.

Dr. Klain is a very enthusiastic lecturer, and is always thorough and clear with his explanations. The only downside is that he can go a bit fast sometimes, so if you look away for a minute, you'll be lost. The quizzes and exams are very fair, and the homework is challenging but optional. Probably my favorite professor at UML!

He goes very fast through the lectures and the homework is pretty difficult to figure out (no solutions for it). Listen to him when he tells you that the practice exams will be nothing like your exams because he's right. Towards the end, I didn't care what grade I got, I just wanted to pass because the clsss was so difficult.

Klein gives a quiz every friday on the material covered in class (sometimes a take home quiz) and allows you to use your notes. On the three exams, you can bring one sheet of notes to use. He goes extremely fast, but he has a lot to cover. Not many examples and the book's problems are extremely difficult and there are no worked out solutions.

Knowledgeable and clear on explanations but goes way too fast through content. It was a struggle to even keep up with his notes let alone have time to really look at it what he was actually teaching. He uses a book that has no worked out solutions even in the solutions manual!

Extremely good teacher. Very knowledgeable about this subject and almost every other mathematical discipline. Always willing to help students outside of class. Explains somewhat difficult material in a very clear way and solidifies most points by multiple methods. I would definitely recommend you take his Prob and Stats course.

Great professor, makes points very clear, shows several examples and different methods of approaching problems. Fair grader, makes sure you are understanding the material, will gladly help after class, ask him about anything you are confused about and there's no way you won't pass, he explains very clearly.

Great professor. This is a very hard course, Dan is definitely the best teacher. That said, its not easy. The class moves very fast. Quizzes are open-book, open-note and easier. Exams are hard, but fair. You need to practice. He is generous with partial credit. Dan is a true mathematician, you can ask him anything math related and get the answer.

I've never had a professor who's so enthusiastic about math in a way that you can feel it in his lectures as him. He knows tries to make everything as clear as he could, and has gone over the same proof for three times just because there're still people that don't understand. Definitely a 5 worthy professor!Gonna be taking 2 more classes with him!!

Took 4 classes with him and he easily is one of the best teachers. I failed stats in the summer and took it again with Klain and understood so much more. Took Calc2, Discrete 1 and 2 with him as well. Highly recommend taking ANY math class with him.

Klain is the man. approachable, friendly, entertaining in class. rarely goes off on a tangent but it is always amusing when he does. He is willing to go over anything you need help with. calc2 sadly comes with online hw that sucks, but he also assigns problems from the book that are 100% helpful. do the online hw for the grade, his to re

He talks to himself a lot, but it's quite entertaining! He's extremely smart and will always try to make you completely understand what you may have trouble with. His weekly quizzes are fair and he's very approachable and friendly. (He calculuted log (of some #) times a constant in his head and he was correct...)

Excellent professor who really knows mathematics well. If you are math inclined and can follow his lectures you will probably really enjoy this class. However if you have difficulties with math his class could be a struggle but you could always request that he clarify something. I would highly reccomend him though.

Very clear, very helpful. I love that he explains it so that you can understand the idea behind formulas and theorems, it makes math less "magical" and makes for less memorization and more understanding. Also, the optional homework is much more helpful than the mandatory online homework.
