Comment:
Excellent professor. His lectures are very lucid and extremely helpful, and the pace of the course/lectures seems very natural. While doesn't hesitate to be direct and honest regarding students' weaknesses, he is appropriately encouraging. His occasional criticism/teasing is welcome given his warm personality and praise.

He is extremely pretentious. Be prepared for him to tell you to throw out all prior knowledge from AP Theory. Assigns lengthy homework and does not always college/grade it. If you don't have any basic theory knowledge before hand consider getting a tutor from week one.

Dr. Koppelman is the hands down the best theory teacher I have had--and I've had a couple before coming to FU. He is super helpful, understanding, and great at what he does. He is an great pianist and cares that his students understands the material. He is a fair grader and his tests are straightforward. Do come to class and pay attention though.

One of my favorite teachers ever. He makes an effort to help students to understand, and he usually manages to make a slightly boring subject seem fun. Chances are, you only take theory because you have to, so just know that he's your best option.

Dan Koppelman is one of the best teachers I've ever had. He genuinely has a passion and a love for the field that he is in and anyone can obviously see that in the way he teaches. If you work in his class and are genuinely on top of things, you will do well. Taking an interest and a part in class discussion will definitely help.I love Koppelmeister!

Dr. Koppelman saved me from the otherwise horrifically awful theory instruction that goes on at Furman. He was the only instructor in this area who actually EXPLAINS theory instead of assuming that "serious music students" would already know what's going on. Clearly, he is an educator whilst other theory instructors are not exactly into it.

i had him for tech and two theory classes. i'd def. say he's MUCH better and nicer as a theory teacher. if you take an interest to his subject and work somewhat then it's not hard to come out with an a or b. he has a quirky personality, and he even likes it when you argue back sometimes...he likes ppl to prove him wrong.

dr. koppelman is definitely not my favorite. he didn't seem to have an interest in really any of his students, and he got frustrated when we tried to talk about more advanced topics. BE ORIGINAL and CREATIVE... think outside the box, and you will do A-ok.

Such a strange little man... but music tech is a pretty easy class, especially to help freshman music majors ease into Furman's curriculum. It's a little frustrating for the non-Mac person, but I guess you get used to it.

he's hilarious, in a corny/pop-culture way, and he plays around with cool music on the piano during class. has a great knowledge of theory and function, helps if asked, solid courses and teacher.

The class is a little monotonous with four projects that all border around frustrations associated with apple computers. He moves quickly in explaining technology points but has very helpful TA's to complete what he leaves undone in explanataions.

He is a great teacher! Some people don't seem to like him, but I don't see why. He covers all the material and makes it easy to understand, all the while slipping in awful jokes. You won't have any trouble staying awake.

Music Tech is a BS class anyway, so he is probably better as a theory teacher or something. But be prepared to be both bored and frustrated with Tech.

Not very personable, and frankly, not a very good teacher for music tech. I think I know more about computers, and I'm an English major. Geez. The TA's did everything.
