From the looks of it, it looks like people are struggling with this class during the year. However, I am taking cell biology with Zurek this summer and let me tell you its pretty easy to get an A considering the curves are huge because no one does well. I never study for his tests and end up getting C's which get curved to A's. So basically easy A.

Very unprofessional teacher. Never post the homework grades, lectures straight from book using power points. His study guides do not correlate to the test. He always lets his students out of class 20-30 minutes early when he could be utilizing the time to teach. Also he uses profanity in about every other sentence. Very unprofessional for PH.D

Comes across as a professor as well as a person. Very willing to help you understand materials, although his text can be challenging. Overall amazing guy!!

Comment:

Class covers a lot of information. Studying powerpoints, notes, and the book is necessary to get an A in the class... or get your hands on some old tests and cut the studying in half. Old tests have saved me (and he knows we use them). He is relatively entertaining but didnt hesitate much when sharing personal opinions on issues outside of biology.

Tough grader on lab reports but very helpful in lab itself. Gives you a lot of room to figure things out on your own, so if you want more structure and more specific procedures, this lab might not work out for you.

His class is hands down the best class I could have taken. I struggle and hate the type of biology we were learning about HOWEVER he made it fun and entertaining. He was INCREDIBLY friendly and helpful and will respond to you at literally any time of day. His test are tough but he curves. you will learn. just know the power points.

There is homework at the end of each section but it helps tons with the exams. Make sure to complete the homework and even check the answers in the back of the book for the easy points. Zurek does cuss a bit so if your sensitive to a foul mouth then you might choose someone else. Took this class 3 times at Washburn but didn't pass until now.

Zurek is a great professor that really cares about his students. If you show that you care about your grade he'll help you as much as he can. His test are multiple choice which to me were always tricky and difficult. He had a essay at the end which was worth a lot of points but he told you ahead of time what it would be over. Overall great guy!

The class is tough but Dr Zurek will help anyone who wants to be helped. If you think you're going to just copy old tests and pass you won't make it far. Invest a little time in actually learning the material and ask questions! He is there to help!

Loved this class! Zurek is fun and humorous which is a nice break in the monotony. He lectures over what will be on his tests but to completely understand the complete concepts you need to put time in outside of class: reading the text book, taking notes, working on the labs prior. Put the work in and you will learn well!

I didn't look forward to taking this class, but I'm glad I did. Dr. Zurek is hilarious and makes jokes to keep people interested, and he knows what he's talking about. Homework is just questions from the book. Puts the powerpoints and test reviews on Canvas. I learned a lot and recommend him to anyone taking POB1. Just be sure to study!

Awesome teacher. Maybe almost a little to smart for his own good , but you will learn plenty in POB1. Do have to pay attention and study but what else would you expect from a major course. Real personable guy that will help you if needed and usually understands what you are not and will tailor tests to this. DO RECOMMEND

I absolutely loved Zurek! He made some of the most boring topics we covered interesting with his side comments an witty remarks. He got our tests back usually by the next class. I would completely reccommend his class!!

Dr. Zurek is a remarkable teacher! I've had him a couple times and was once my adviser. His classes are only as hard as you make them. They aren't intro classes so study as you go & ask questions & read & you will do fine. He isn't there to baby you! You learn so much from him. Always in good spirits and his attitude/personality make class fun!

A very horrible teacher, if you don't have old test then it's almost impossible. Lectures are boring and he speaks incredibly too fast to take any notes. He acts like he'll be helpful, but when you go get help he treats you like you are stupid. Very mean spirited guy.

Easily my favorite teacher at Pitt State! He is a great teacher! Not mean at all unless you are a slacker and shouldn't be in his class anyway. He cares about his students and always offers help. If you want an easy class and don't care about learning anything take it from someone else.
