Dana's pretty chill. Paper assignments are kind of long but there are only two. The movies are really entertaining and she knows her stuff. Aside from 2 papers, there are weekly quizzes, a blog post assignment, and you also get a grade for tweeting about the films every week (along w/ attendance grade). Wish the class wasn't at 9am though...

She is a great teacher and makes your freshman semester go by well. She really wan't you to be successful and she has all the tools to do it. She is extremely reasonable and very enthusiastic about her work. There's a lot of work but if you stay on top of it you should be fine.

Great professor to start your first semester with. Casual and laid back. Gives a ton of feedback and is always willing to meet with students outside of class. Very outgoing. She's a tough grader, but your work REALLY improves by the end of the semester. Take advantage of optional 1 point assignments and participate in class & you will do just fine

One of my favorite professors so far. She lectures, and then you watch a film for the remaining portion of the class. Grades are based off discussion, online contribution, some short papers, and two exams. Exams are easy if you look over the material, and papers are super short and on fun topics. Definitely would take another class with her.

I took Film Comedy with Dana-it was my favorite class I've ever taken. She is a wonderful teacher who really wants you to succeed and is very helpful when you ask her for help. Easy isn't really the right word, but you'll never be stressed about her class because it's just so interesting that you enjoy doing the work for it. I enjoyed every class.

I took Intro to Film as a Gen Ed, and liked it. True, it was really long (4 hours) but it was once a week and we watched a movie for at least half the class every week. Dr. Och has very interactive classes, and makes an effort to know everyone's names. She gives tricky tests, but evens it out with smaller assignments and participation points.

Dana is a great person and teacher. She can sometimes be a little intimidating, she is very passionate about her work & expects her students to work hard. And sometimes her directions are a bit unclear. But she really makes you think and definitely encourages you to think critically on your own. Also gives very good feedback. Definitely recommend.

She's such a fantastic teacher! One of the best I've had. She's a bit tough on grading but if you're up on your material you'll have no problem. Really, she's great. Hilarious, fun, creative, inspirational, insightful, intelligent etc. I would recommend this teacher to anyone. If you take her class get ready to have fun!

She is fantastic. Compared to any other comp class I could have taken, this was definitely the best. Not only did she open our eyes to the world, but presented everything in an accessible way. She may be a bit intimidating at times, but she is also hilarious. Take this class.

THIS IS NOT A FILM CLASS. If you are looking to watch movies you will be disappointed. We watched 2 real movies all semester and instead wrote 7 page papers on museums. She is not an easy grader. She is mean even though she keeps a smile on her face. I completely regret taking her class

Dana is definitely passionate about her work and really opened up my point of view on film and the media. I feel as though I learned a great deal about myself as a writer, but seeing my friends in regular comp I wish I would have taken that instead! English is a strong subject of mine but this course is challenging if you are w/o a film background.

Dana is fantastic. NOT an easy A course, but a good grade is attainable with work. She definitely changes your perspective about media and society, and she's easy to work with. She is also humble, and behaves like a human being, I don't think I could've gotten a better teacher.

I had Dana for Seminar in Composition/Freshman Programs class this semester. She's incredibly intelligent not just on film and writing, but also gives you a great insight on society and institutions in general. There is a decent amount of work, but you will leave a much better writer than you were before.

took her seminar in comp, film class. the movies were almost all really great and interesting but there is so so much writing and she is a verryyy critical grader. for a seminar in composition, it was a good class; however, the amount of writing made me choose to not take any writing classes next semester
