He's the best prof at SMC hands down. He treats you like an adult and allows you to interpret things on your own as opposed to telling you what to think. He's nice, funny, and if you're struggling and you go to him for help he's there.

Too much emphasis was put on literature/fiction for a class in argumentative writing. A novel was used where a work of philosophy would have been more appropriate. However, the novel was immensely complex, wholly immersive and challenging, demanding analytic rigor.

Prompts weren't very interesting, and he claimed to grade on a students effort, which is not easily measured. If you like young adult books and aim to write that way, then definitely take this class.

Dr.Cano class was chill. The class is more of a workshop not a lecture class therefore u must participate somewhat and engage with the class. u must read 2 of your 3 stories out loud to the class. I found he is very approachable especially in office hours don't be scared to ask for help. It was a pleasure being part of his creative writing class.:)

Professor Cano is a very nice approachable guy, and this creative writing class is easy. It's like a workshop, and it's a little boring, but all in all its a nice class to be a part of. Easy class just do the work which is not overwhelming and you will pass. You have to speak out loud when you write your story so keep that in mind. I recommend :)

First, this class is more of a workshop and is focused on short stories. Daniel Cano is super laidback and chill, and is one of my favorite smc professors yet. He begins the class with an open discussion then proceeds to either in-class exercises or going over the assigned reading. No tests, just 3 short stories throughout the semester.

The textbook he uses to teach writing could be better--Bird By Bird isn't a good book for people who are just starting out writing. He's also rather odd. One day he may like your comments, the next day he acts like he hates you. Favored a guy who was an OK writer but didn't know his characters and was always trying to get out of going to class.

Very nice guy but can be a hard grader. Pays attention to small commas and punctuation. Show improvement over the semester and go to class. Participate and you will do well.

GREAT professor! Really knows his stuff, and if you need help, he will give it to you. Very approachable and nice. You use a packet and read one small book for his class, so its not an expensive class at all (as far as books go). He's really funny too most of the time. Also, there is quite a bit of group-work, which I really liked
