I took Music Appreciation with him in 2003 then took his very first Opera Appreciation class and absolutely fell in love with opera again. Daniel became a good friend of many. He will be sorely missed. He was a fantastic human being. I was so lucky to call him friend and got to see his premiere of Il Postino. RIP my dear friend!

This class was great i'd have to say. I probably went maybe 8 times the entire semester. I got an A in the class although everything i turned in was late. I was absent for 3 tests and he let me take them all on the last day. Did great, i got an A. He is an amazing teacher. Takes much pride in music!

i love catan! he is so funny and really tries to help you understand. There are almost no assignments. A midterm, and the final is a 32 bar composition. Really not hard at all, it was sometimes a boring class to have for 3 hours. but he always made me laugh! :)

im taking this class online and i think it's irritating. i think the class would be more clear and interesting if it was not an online class (so nothing against prof catan) maybe im biased cause i have no interest in the technicality of music, i'm just taking this for the GE requirement. i chose it cause of its good reviews but im very disappointed

unbelievably easy! take it online, easy quizzes and a few short assignments. Midterm and final are composed entirely of questions from previous quizzes. Cool music like Bob Marley, Jimi Hendrix and Miles Davis makes this class more appealing than Music 105, at least in my opinion.

I took his Music Appreciation course online and it was an awesome experience. The class is very very simple. He's really helpful through email, and I've never met him but he seems like the genuinely cares about his students' success. Really cool assignments, HIGHLY recommend.

I was the only girl in the class and i had absolutely no music experence, and i got an A. He was very helpful and didn't mind explaning the material several times for me. quizes were reasonable and on the exact material learned in class. He made funny jokes and was an absolute pleasure:)
