I'm a senior and this is freshman level course, and it was really hard. Tests are one large essay, matching and the rest is short answer. Requires a lot of reading and you better know the material inside and out. Classes are strictly lecture, and can tend to be on the boring side. He's very detail oriented.

Very hard professor. He is also very intelligent, probably one of the brightest Behrend has to offer. His exams are multiple essays and short answer. Expects the student to do research outside the scope of the class and show interest in the material, kind of odd for a 100 level history course. All in all, interesting course but hard to get an A in.

If you don't feel like you've mastered how to study and retain information (there are daily reading assignments) then, DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE. It's not impossible to do well in, but you have to make sure you do ALL of the readings, attend every class, and know the lectures/book material backwards, forwards, upside down--then you might get a B.

I came into this class excited to learn about Greek History, and left hating it. Although Dr. Frankforter is incredibly intelligent, his class is extremely difficult and the lectures bore me most of the time. By far the hardest class I took this semester, and it was only a gen ed. If you don't study or read the material you will fail. period.

I was a first semester student taking this course and I absolutely loved it! I admit it was challenging and it took up the many long hours, and caused much sleep deprivation, but I got a ton out of this class. Dr. Frankforter is a genius lecturer I studied a lot for his tests and I got an A in the course. He's also pretty funny, but could care less

Dr. Frankforter is a very very very smart guy. He knows his stuff inside and out. The class is very hard for a 100 level course. Unless you are very interested in history, I do not recommend this class as an elective. You will not get by with-out hours of hard work outside of class. If you do finish, it can be a rewarding experience.

One of the best lecturers at Behrend. But this class was ridiculously difficult for an intro level. He assumes everyone is a history major, when in reality most are just trying to meet their gen ed reqs for graduation and end up having to drop the course instead. My 400 level engineering courses were easier and less time consuming than this.

I have been in college for over 6 years, including graduate school, graduated from Behrend in 06. Has complete mastery of the material. The tests and papers he assigns are difficult, quit whining about it. College it is supposed to be hard. Funny, in an old man kind of way.

A lot of my time went into this class and i was able to get a B. I was amazed on how accurate his lectures where to the book until i finally relized he wrote the book! If you must take one of his classes be ready to read almost everyday. Studying for tests is like baking a cake with no oven.

Probably the worst professor I've ever taken. Disregarded what i read about him on this site and regret it because i was forced to drop the class. impossible, he purposely will mark things wrong or fail you to weed out the students he doesnt want in the class. avoid at all costs!!!

Dr. Frankforter is clearly an extremely intelligent man. His class was, for me, very difficult, perhaps because I took it while I was a first semester freshman. I would suggest not taking this class as a freshman, and I don't recommend taking this class if you aren't interested in history-you may fall asleep.

He makes you think and understand what happened in the ancient world and why. He is a genious, though he might be a little arrogant he deserves to be. His tests are ridiculous and solely what your grade is based on. He has a throat problem and it is slightly annoying but props to him. Amazing teacher, take him if you WANT to learn.

All of you slow people who think he is actually a good teacher and funny or the people who just want to see innocent students get messed over by lieing and saying omg hes the greatest teacher ever can go you know where. He is the most ridiculous teacher ive have ever taken and i hope he either retires very soon or gets fired.

I don't understand how so many people like a teacher in which over 30% of the students drop it. I'll admit being a first semester student was some of the reason his class was so hard for me, but many upper classmen also said the same thing. If you're taking his class for a gen ed, DON'T! You have to love the material to do well.
