This was my second course with Daniel and it was as enjoyable as my first one, although I found the textbook to be rather boring, the overall class was a good though. Fair grading, very helpful in preparing for the exams too.

Great professor, he really cares a lot about his students and tends to give them the benefit of the doubt. At first, he was hard to understand, but the more he talked in lectures that easier it became to understand him. Very knowledgeable on Asian studies.

It is very clear that Daniel cares about the subject, but it was so difficult to understand him, and his powerpoints were awful if there even was one for the week. He assigned us to do a presentation that was worth 10%, but lasted 45 mins, with the amount of stress and work put into it, it should have been worth much more. Easy grade

Daniel is a great prof. Accent may be hard to understand at first but it doesn't take long to get used to. Very fair marker and gives good feedback. Sometimes goes through slides fast but he usually sends it night before via email so take notes before class.

I was frustrated with my experience. Yes, I took the class during a condensed late summer semester (July-Aug 2016), but Daniel was late every single class and failed to discipline students that were talking during his lectures. He also did not full-screen his slides consistently, thus demonstrating computer illiteracy. I don't recommend him to you.

Daniel is very smart and a teacher who is dedicated to ensuring his students succeed. He worked for the Chinese government grading government entry exams which is tough. What makes him different than other teachers is that he gives half marks even if you didn't get a right answer but tried anyway. you get what you give in his class.

good filler class. not too much reading and tests were fairly simple. He is a fair marker and gives you half marks as long as you write something down. He does require his students to sign an attendance sheet for participation marks.

Assignments are clear and straightforward. moderate assigned readings although usually interesting. would recommend to anyone interested in Chinese History.

Daniel is an excellent teacher. He paces the class well so 3 hours doesn't seem like too long. This course is full of content and has a ton of reading. Daniel is a very tough marker. He gave a speech (after the midterm) that he doesn't give As easily. I got a full letter grade below all my other classes. Overall I learned a ton, though.

This guy is an awesome teacher, if youre looking for a class full of content and wanting to learn something, then this is the class to take. His use of dry humor makes him seem human (gasp). His accent takes a while to get used to, but you end up understanding the content anyways. He's a reasonable marker. 10/10 in my book

Daniel has a good sense of humour. His accent is a little difficult to understand but it is easy to get used to. Despite these things, however, he is inconsiderate to students. He doesn't put his lectures online, he only gives reviews a week before the test. He doesn't realize that students have other things to worry about besides his class.

He really knows what he is talking about! His accent isn't too bad once you get use to it, it sometimes is hard to stay focus because you have to try a little bit harder to understand him. His marking is fair. Explains all questions thoroughly in class. Would love to take more classes with him!
