LEVINE is the GOLD standard for a college level prof. Yes it was a challenge for me, but I learned MORE than in any other class. Negative reviews are most likely from not well organized students and maybe students gifted in other ways of learning. LEVINE is a RICH CONTRIBUTION to SCAD and sets an EXCELLENT STANDARD & EXAMPLE. Class will ENRICH YOU.

I can't believe people think this class is hard. It's a standard art history class, and it's very easy if you pay attention and study. Levine is brilliant and wonderful to talk to. And he curves everything. People who think this is hard never picked up the book, never studied outside of class and have never had a real lecture before.

This man is awful.Makes you memorize 100+ images then tests you on just 14 random selections per test, you could know 86% of the material and still fail! Most stressful thing I have ever been subjected to. Steer clear of this guy! You can learn just as much in someone else's class without damaging your GPA, and believe me, it WILL get damaged!

I actually learned a lot in this class & would say he is a pretty interesting and awesome professor. HOWEVER, I ended up making a C in class. I think I may have bombed the final terribly, b/c I thought I was making somewhere around the low B range before then. Oh yea, you have to guess your grade all quarter, b/c you wont receive one til the end

I loved this class, and I'm not super interested in it. If you have the capacity to enjoy art history (and honestly you probably should if you're going here) you'll enjoy this class... but be prepared to get your butt handed to you. Hardest tests I've ever taken. I got a 57 on the first test and was in the top 25% he curves though, so its kinda ok.

This class is the hardest class I have ever taken in my life. The tests get easier as the quarter goes on though. Even if you study ahead of time and for many hours you will only end up with a mediocre grade. He is aware that his tests are ridiculous so he curves them. Although you have to work really hard in this class, you learn so much. worth it

This was the worst class I have ever had. You sit in the dark and listen to him ramble and ramble for 2 1/2 hours. Its agony. His tests are so ridiculously hard whether you study or not. I would not recommend this guy to my worst enemy.

There are only 4 grades, the tests, which are extremely hard. He tests you on the stories behind the work, not the actual dates. Be prepared to be extremely dedicated to this class if you want even a decent grade. That said, wonderful teacher. He isn't wasting your time here and really challenges you.

ONCE-IN-A-LIFETIME PROFESSOR. He inspired me, taught me more on my major (architecture) in his art history class than any architecture professor. I worked my A$$ off in his class, but IT WAS WORTH IT!

Dr. Levine is awesome! He's hilarious and very smart and helpful. His exams are impossible but you learn a lot and class is a lot of fun! You can tell he knows his stuff. I recommend him if you want to learn a lot, but not if you want a good grade for little work. STUDY STUDY STUDY!

If your looking for a good Grade, I recommend taking someone else. He actually tells you this the first day. The tests are why to hard and that's the only thing you get graded on beside class participation.

I will start by stating that I learned a great deal in this class. With that said, his tests are almost impossible. For each test I studied at least 5 hours in the beginning & close to 10 as the quarter went on--ended up with a C. The problem that I had was that the test left you scrambling even if you had a working knowledge of the information.

first day of class goes like this: do not bother trying to get an A in my class. i grade very hard, and always on a curve. my tests are 20% guess work. you must read every night. okay go. .....he's not someone worth taking if you're at SCAD for good grades.

This teacher is one of the worst I have ever had. He is a grumpy old man who thinks his sense of humor is hilarious. His tests are the hardest to take and he prepares you very little for the tests he gives. He is not helpful and is somewhat sarcastis when you ask for help. Avoid this teacher at all costs.

His class is very difficult due to the fact that your grade is based off of tests only. He is a funny guy and nice and you learn a lot in the class but need to possess a strong memory in order to get a B or higher on the tests, but bright side, he does add a curve.

Survey 1 was very difficult, His tests are extremely hard to do good on, but he grades on a curve. I would recommend this class to an Art history student but not if your interest is low. Great Guy but very hard test. Be Cautious if you don't study 8 hours for each exam.

He REALLY knows art history and teaches it with passion. He makes you WANT to learn what he's teaching. Sure his tests are hard, but he stresses context and distinctive styles- the overall concepts- over trivial things such as dates. It's not mechanic memorization he asks of you, it is the ability to recognize a peice of artwork and identify it!!

Levine, so far, has been pretty legit. He gives really weird tests, but he grades on a curve. I think he teaches really well and explores many different aspects of the history of art. I suggest taking this class if you want a challenge or a real education.

I took levine for survey 2. I wish I could have taken him for survey 1 as well. I learned so much in his class. He is an amazing professor. He made me remember how much I love history. I took the class last year, and I still remember a lot of the material. He's amazing. I wish he was still teaching at SCAD. His focus in the class is to get you to u
