He is nice and funny and makes the class enjoyable. However, he is a stickler for participation, so make sure you speak up! He is extremely helpful outside of class. He's a tough grader though!

Terkla is a smart guy, but you can tell he thinks he's smarter than he really is. The guys acts like he is the epitome of the beat generation. His theatrics and comments in class can be amusing though.

Taking the King Arthur GW with him, and its very interesting. He can spin Old English texts in an interesting way, and knows how to spark a good discussion. Class is very discussion based. A tough grader as far as writing, but will help you fix problems you probably didn't even know you had. Very personable. Highly recommended.

COOLEST professor. Is not a tough grader, but a fair grader. You get the grade you deserve. BUT if you don't get something, he is MORE than willing to help! Never had a professor as fun and concerned with the learning experience. I want to take ALL his classes. :)

I enjoy going to this class every week. Terkla creates such an awesome discussion environment. I'm learning in his class like I never have before. He's a really funny guy and very open to opinions and interpretations on the texts. The texts themselves are usually kind of boring at first, but Terkla makes them awesome! Highly recommend!

Terkla is so beyond cool, there are no words. He really knows his Chaucer, and it's really easy to be engaged in the topic at hand because he's so excited about teaching it. Super helpful with paper topics and very understanding about giving extensions with a valid reason.

Dr. Terkla is an awesome professor! He keeps class interesting and filled with discussion. All of his assignments are very clear and concise. There's a fair bit of reading, but most of it's interesting. The work load isn't a breeze, but it's manageable. He grades tough, but fair. If you put forth the effort, you will get a good grade.

Extremly tough grader, only wants you to agree with him. He seems like a cool, nice guy, but will rip your essays apart if they don't agree with what he has to say. Unfair, self-absorbed. I do NOT recommend this class unless you worship at the altar of Terkla and the Beat Writers. A waste of time if you're looking for a fair grade.

I fought hard for a B-. Don't take Terkla's class unless you're willing to work. He appears helpful, but beware. He gives you nebulous ideas that make it even WORSE when you're trying to write something that's already abstract

Basically, unless you agree with Terkla, he will ignore what you say and move on to someone who can regurgitate his thoughts and/or read his mind perfectly. He doesn't explain what he wants then gives you a bad grade because you didn't write exactly what he wanted. I DO NOT recommend him. his class was a waste of my time and it will waste yours :(

As much as I like him as a person a few words of caution: DO NOT take Terkla's class as a gen ed like i did (mistake!!) you WILL work your butt off and probably not get that good of a grade. He's extremely tough in the grading department. This class is great for english majors but for everyone else a very tough gen ed. :(
