Best Math Prof I ever had. Took this abstract course years ago. I just finished graduate school and now value and cherish the grounding this professor gave me. Nothing prepared me for graduate work as much as this professor teaching this course

If you're the type who likes to study from the textbook as a supplement to his lectures..this class would be tough in that aspect. He uses a graduate level textbook, which wasn't very readable for me. If you feel prepared for that level as a mathematics undergrad, then go for his class. He's a nice guy, but probably not everyone's type of teacher.

I think he's a good professor, I don't understand why people complain. He's sometimes not so clear in his proofs, but it's not that big of a deal, you can just go to office hours and you'll get it. His tests were very very fair, not to say too easy. In my case, anyone who studied and went to office hours will get an A. No bad surprises on his tests

He's a very nice and funny guy, but as far as teaching is concerned you're better off reading the book. He will only confuse you. He's not organized in his thoughts. His tests are good though. Most questions can be figured out and understood if you understand the material. He allows cheat sheets as well. Also, his curves are student friendly.

so i got one of the lowest grades on the midterm, had a 55% avg on the hmwk, and did not do well on the final but still got a B-. yeah i'm not too smart but just trying to prove the point that he's generous with his grades. make sure you study those damn compact sets.

badly structured course! just a series of profs lecturing on random things. free food, but...a waste of time. even for no units, grade, zip.

Excellent professor. Keep up with his notes on the board because he tends to work on multiple boards at the same time (say to prove a lemma in the middle of a proof). Fair exams. One of the best math profs. at UCSD and any math major would probably agree with me.

He hates math. Talks way too much about his bicycling. Gives incomprehensible lectures and tries to please his students by allowing them five pages of notes for each exam. Take him and you will learn nothing. Funny guy, though.

He does make mistaked on the board, but makes up for it with his good explanations. He also makes sure he answers everyone's quesions--a real jolly guy.
