Dr. Mason is a very good but tough professor. I think this is equated as bad for some but it pushes you to have a better understanding. He is always around after class and at times before class to talk to if needed and is very quick to respond to emails. It is a very lecture heavy class but that is the nature of stem classes.

Dr. Mason is an awesome professor. I have never worked harder in a class, but I have also never learned more. He is accessible, gives very good feedback, and his lectures are interesting. If you are up for a challenge and serious about learning you should take this class.

I found him to be very arrogant and condescending at times. He did give extra credit, but given all the other stats classes almost got handed their 4.0s, this class was a bit frustrating. He's a good teacher and I did well in the class but overall one of my least favorite professors as a person. Don't take stats with him if Anderson is an option.

Math is not an easy class. The professors help you succeed and Mason is definitely an amazing professor. He was always there. He helped when you asked and always gave one "pop" quiz a week. While tough, he is a phenomenal teacher. He is extremely dedicated to the subject, and is always willing to answer questions. If you care- he cares, but does not put up with laziness. He is the reason i am a math double major, as he displays confidence in students he is proud of. Accessible, clear, and straight to the point. good examples!

His expectations are huge, but he literally lives in his office, so it's easy to get help. He will always drop whatever he's doing and help you out, as long as you can show that you tried. He also had an issue a few years ago with not showing up...that's over now. He missed like 1 class.

Derrin Mason (aka D$) has been my favorite teacher so far in my college studies. I had him for Statics and Dynamics at the U of M and he was great. Relates material well to the real world and tests what he teaches.

Dr. Mason taught at U of M for a couple of semesters in 2007- He's an awesome teacher! He inspires your interest in the topic. He's very quick to understand questions and has a good answer for you. Very approachable and very helpful. If you have the option to take a class with him, TAKE IT!

Does a good job intertwining examples with proofs and is enthusiastic about subject. Does a good job relating course to other fields for those that are in course for differing majors. Cares about students and is available to help students. Flexible with due dates. Cares more that you learn and understand the subject than try to meet a deadline.

This was a directed study (real analysis), so it was me and him one on one. This was probably my favorite class this semester; he let me pick my own problems sometimes, and made analysis more conversational. We used Rudin for text, I feel especially well trained in reading and writing proofs.
