Very knowledgeable. However, does not seem to care about the success of his students. Lacks clarity and cohesion in lectures. Must decipher everything he says.

Comment:
This course has absolutely nothing to do with exercise physiology. Solely a (terrible) course on exercise prescription on special populations. I must say, this is probably the worst course I've ever taken, and that's saying a lot. Warburton has zero concept of how to teach, and is absolutely full of himself. Only upside is he scales like mad.

I was genuinely looking forward to taking 375 because I had learnt so much in previous exercise physiology classes but this was a huge disappointment. He is by far may be the most conceited professor I have ever met. I would not recommend taking this course but if it's a necessary pre-req, take it in the summer with different professor.

PROS: Labs are GPA booster and can pretty much get perfect on them because it was straighforward. He scales generously.CONS:the midterm and finals are terrible because eventhough you study the readings, labs, powerpoints, it is still not enough to do great. Spent way too much time on material that was irrelevant for the midterm/final.(Par-Q)

Absolutely useless, arrogant professor. He spent over 3 weeks talking about himself and the PAR-Q (which, as mentinoed in previous comments, was not tested to a great extent) and spent the last 2 weeks of classes blasting through 4 chapters. I beg you - LOOK ELSEWHERE if you actually want to learn!

Worst. Prof. Ever! Extremely conceited. Spent a good 2 months talking about his research and his contributions to the new Par-Q, material that isn't even testable. Seriously, I learned nothing from him.

If you are considering an MSc/PhD with D.Dub I implore you to look elsewhere. Do NOT let his CV etc fool you. There are many other profs in Canada including UBC who are kind, who actually mentor their students, who do not have a Napoleon complex, who do not speak poorly of other faculty members behind their backs, etc...

Warburton is the worst teacher I have ever had at UBC.I think exercise physiology should be one of the most important courses for an HKIN degree and Darren barely teaches anything relevant to understanding exercise phys. I even asked him a question about our midterm where the answer was opposite to his lecture &he couldn't explain the answer to me!

Whoever said he doesn't by into mark inflation - marks were definitely scaled, and he gives a BONUS 10% if you pay $75 and attend the CSEP conference. Expect to learn a lot about his research and the mighty CSEP, and little about exercise physiology. Oh and the "Critical thinking" learning he preaches -- you'll do that maybe 5 times all year.

If you liked 275, don't expect to like 375 with Warburton. Spends more class time talking about himself, his research, and CSEP rather than physiology. Always hints that his method of teaching is better than other profs, but he is by far the worst I've had in HKIN. Also having to buy 2 textbooks is ridiculous as they are rarely needed.

Worst HKIN class I have taken. Midterm is straight from the CSEP CEP study guide with hardly any relevance to what was actually discussed in class. Almost no mention of the material from 2 required text books (worth over $200). Have to buy a 10% bonus mark for $75 and attend his CSEP conference. Great CSEP CEP class, awful HKIN 375 course!!

I honestly feel sorry for the guy. He's obviously got low self esteem and lives vicariously through his lab, and yes its frustrating when he name drops like there is no tomorrow, or spends more time talking about CSEP than class material, but I dont think he's consciously trying to make students do poorly, or drive us nuts. He just doesn't get it.

This prof is the only prof I've ever disliked enough to comment about. This class has taught me nohing about exercise physiology, but everyhing about how Darren Warburton is the most important person (let alone exercise pysiologst)in the world & I feel for him that he has such an ego complex, he feels the need to discuss these ratings in class.

Boring, useless, and shouldn't be teaching the course. Expects everyone to know LOTS of background knowledge. offered a 10% bonus mark for attending CSEP lectures THAT COST $75. Slow and always off topic. Shouldnt be teaching.

Perhaps the best prof I have ever had. Does not buy into the mark inflation of HKIN, and openly asks students to challenge the literature. Not the course for those who cannot think independently.

Openly critiques other professors and other professionals who differ in opinions. Spends a lot of time off on a tangent, talking about himself, CSEP, research, and more about himself. There is almost no physiology in this course. PPT notes come from the textbook, and some from his research. Boring class, boring professor, medium difficulty.

Nice enough guy, but not the greatest prof. Criticizes other intructors/courses pretty openly which I thought was very unprofessional. The midterm was brutal but thankfully he scales generously. Showing up to class is a must in order to understand his notes. It's a required class for Health Sci. so just suck it up.

Knowledgeable fellow, but a researcher. As a teacher, explanations were often not well organized. It was not uncommon for him to ramble from one area of interest to another, and forget to come back to the first or tie in the point. Textbook is KEY, especially for multiple choice. Try CD in textbook as well. Go over the graphs in the notes.
