Comment:
He did this strange module format in which we took an exam for each chapter, but needed to pass the exam with an 80 or better. We were allowed to re-take the exams as many times as needed (new questions), but required a lot of work to meet with him, do new hw questions, and then take a new exam. It was a lot of work, but he was extremely accessible

Both extremely lazy and strict. Its hard to do well in the class, and herder to learn anything. He pitches fits all the time and takes it out on his students. I would say avoid him, but for Physics majors at Boise State University that is impossible, so just avoid the Boise State University Department of Physics.

I suppose I am biased because I love physics but I thought he was great. Teaching planetary physics and astrobiology as a core class is obviously going to result in some nay sayers but many of them probably didn't belong it that class to begin with. If you enjoy that subject and are looking for a well reviewed professor he's your guy.

If you do the work, ie do the reading, go to the study sessions, you can get an A or B. Not a hard class. An entertaining instructor considering the subject.

This is a pretty easy class if you print the notes go to class labs and most importantly go to the review sessions. My test scores went up drastically after I started going to the review sessions.

His tests are tough because even if you study for them and do the study guide,80% of the test is trick questions. You can get a lot of extra points from labs and participation, but the tests will kill if you don't already know the content.

His lectures are unbearably boring, doesnt let you talk in class, and his study guides are not user friendly. He doesnt care whether you do well in his class or not. His study sessions are at such inconvenient times that make it hard for a student to make it to them. He only does one study session per section. Ridiculous. I do not recommend him.

Comment:
He understands that Physics 104 is a core course and is usually taken for this reason alone. He outlines exactly what to know for the tests. Lectures are not overly engaging, but helpful to attend for tests. I think it's entertaining that he tries to be funny. He's relaxed but knowledgeable about this subject. Good choice for science credit.

Didn't require a textbook (nice $ savings). All lectures were power point, but interesting. He didn't respond to emails very well, but he was approachable after class & during some labs. Tough tests, but I managed a 95% in the class overall because of labs & in-class activity points. Attend class for poss extra credit points. Good professor.

Daryl was by far my favorite teacher this semester. Yes, you have to pay attention in class and yes, he dose cover the material, but what I found the most helpful was the help sessions before the tests, which he went through the entire study guild. He is funny and does respond to e-mails. He really is a good person and I would recommend him!

Pretty easy class if you pay attention. Tests aren't too bad if you use the study guides (which are kind of hard to use themselves, but what can you do...). The labs were perhaps a bit diffcult (the lab tech was useless...). Teacher really seems to know what he's talking about. Sometimes the lectures got a little dull, kind of made me sleepy...

Daryl is a nice, funny guy, but his lectures are unbearably boring. Tests are hard and he doesn't usually cover the material in class but if you read the book you should do alright. Study guides are worthless and labs rediculously boring. Doesn't respond to emails or phone calls. He's a nice guy but I wish I hadn't taken this class...

daryl is one of the best professors i've had at bsu! he is ridiculously funny, and good natured. his labs are kind of difficult, but he will sit with you and help you until you understand the material. the labs help a lot with tests. he makes it so easy to study for exams because he gives you previous tests to study off of. He is FANTASTIC!!!

Really knows what he's talking about. May sometimes seem vague, but if you ask a specific question, he will answer thoroughly. Tests are fairly hard, but he grades on a curve and makes study guides. Use them! Labs can be tedious, but they usually end early. If you try, you'll do just fine and you'll learn a lot too. ... And I -liked- his humor!

Tries to be funny, but isn't. Doesn't respond to any emails of mine or other students. Tests are much different than what you read or hear in lecture. Labs are really boring.
