Comment:
Since there's no such thing as "a class that determines if you have what it takes to be a CS major", 1302 with Dr. G was certainly not that. The class was an eye opening experience that taught me a lot. I learned a lot from the books, his notes, and mostly from coding practice. Want to learn -- you can make an A and walk away with useful knowledge.

Predictable prof: you can memorize your way through the course. He explains things well: this is the best thing about Dr. G. He babies you in 1302: study guides, great explanations, and source code. Great lectures. Biggest tip: practice writing code on paper--> he WILL make you write code on tests. Practice the aforementioned and you'll make A+++++

Dr. Gibson is a hard professor but he prepares you for upper level CS courses. He tries his best to help as much as he can but he leaves it up to you to put in the effort to pass.

Dr. Gibson does a good job of explaining new material and how things really work together. The class may seem difficult, but it's just the material, it has nothing to do with his teaching. CS1302 really determines if you have what it takes to be a CS major. He is more than willing to help you out during office hours, etc.

He tries to be a great teacher but ultimately his programs are over complicated and too hard He gets easily distracted and does not explain things through His tests are all hand written code as well He tries to hard to teach it at a 4000 level and scares most students away He is an awesome person TO COMPLICATED FOR AN ENTRY LEVEL JAVA CLASS

This class is fairly easy. You have to do the online homework, but it is easy if you pay attention and practice a bit. There are only 3 tests. A fair ammount of studying is required. You almost always can get out of class early.

There is no textbook for the class. He wrote it himself. If you do the homework in it and understand it you will do good on the tests. The class has 2 projects which are easy. He is helpful in person as well, probably one of the easier stats classes. Most def recommend him.

Dr. Gibson tries to create real-world problems for the students to solve and to show the students the importance of what he is teaching. He is very down to earth and encourages discussion and thought. He is definitely my favorite of the CS professors.

Encourages you to think about hard problems, open-ended situations, real issues. Very relevant classroom discussion.
