I was dreading taking Physics before I walked into Dr. Lucas's class, but from the very first lecture I could tell that it was going to be a good semester. Dr. Lucas is funny, easy to understand, and makes class actually enjoyable. Now I'm looking forward to PH 202 next semester!

Comment:

Dr. Lucas may know a lot about astronomy, but presents it as if we should already know what he is talking about. INCREDIBLY difficult for a 100-level class. As a previous rater stated, KNOW YOUR ALGEBRA before you take any astronomy class! The first week I though I'd be fine until overwhelming math consumed the entirety of the class.

I came into that class having no interest in physics at all, but Lucas does a good job at keeping my attention on the material. He's very brilliant. He was usually available to help you if you needed it. Don't expect an easy A from him though! He makes that clear from the beginning!

He's really good at explaining things, and is quite friendly too. Watch out for the surprise questions in class -- if you don't know your stuff or aren't paying attention, you might be unpleasantly surprised. Tests are really not so bad,neither are the quizzes. Even if physics is hard for you, this is a pretty good class and not unreasonable at all

Had to drop this class. I'm not an astronomy major, and I felt like there was too much that you were either expected to know, or pick up. Also he's VERY exacting(picky) on the formating of his assignments (I couldn't even figure out how to make one work on Word) If you're just looking for a sci class look elswhere. This ones for enthusiasts only.

physics is a hard class no matter the professor- and its still hard with lucas. he tries to make things clear and is always willing to help out. but tests and quizzes are always hard.

I'm horrible at math & science. Without Dr. Lucas' outside help I would have failed the class. His tests and quizzes are super hard but he's always there to help and he'll spend time explaining it until you understand. He's a great guy but a very hard professor. When in doubt, go to his office and ask for help.

David Lucas is an amazing teacher. If you are concerned about taking this class, don't be. If you are having a hard time, he is always there to help and encourges you to come see him. I have never met a teacher that spends so much of his outside class time helping his students. Don't worry about your math abilities, Lucas has your back!

He gives more advanced problems on his quizes than on homework. Gives you more than you can handle in 50 minutes on tests. Pretty good guy, if you haven't had physics before you should probably read the chapters or get a tutor. If you have had physics before show up for class and you'll be fine.

Class is irrelevant. Material from the first 2 weeks of class is really all you learn. Absent from class quite often. Exams are too hard; maybe if the average on exams is 60%, you should make them easier, or shorter. It takes the entire hour to finish an exam. Take this class as a senior, you won't have to study.

This guy likes to go off on tangents. He has quizes that are the same sort of quiz each time. When the exam comes it is completely unlike the quiz. Also, the exams are unbelievably long and he expects you to finish them in record time. Dont take him...or else.

HE did not know how to teach at all. He knows his stuff but he is not very good at getting people tp understand the material. I never knew the purpose of any of the labs we did. He was also very rude when I had a lot of family things happen. I had a note from the dean of students excusing me and I was supposed to be able to take an incomplete and finsh the work at a later date but instead he failed me. He's a real jerk and he is a horrible teacher.

One of my fav. profs yet. More concerned with students learning something than making an A but is willing to help as much as he can so you can actually get an A. Sometimes may forget some students dont have as much background as physics majors. Made class really fun. Wonderful teacher and overall person!
