Comment:

He is a very smart prof since he knows his stuff, but his mind is just so unorganized he doesn't have an effective way of explaining it to students. His slideshows average 3 words per screen, so they are impossible to follow or to study off of. The biggest piece of advice I could give is to write down what he says, and not whats on the powerpoint.

Dave is a really nice guy but don't ever take his class if you don't have to. His power points are impossible to study from and his lectures are all over the place. He is very passionate about what he likes but his class couldn't be more boring.

Dave is a very Nice guy, somewhat approachable, his lectures are very his looking at the slides and talking about them, making the exams hard because he possibly didn't elaborate enough for a person to understand. For my year marks were bell curved based on Dr. Mockfords class, or atleast that what he claimed. Do well in his class, do well in Bio

Dave is a great guy but he is fairly cryptic with his expectations and requirements for labs and midterms. Available for help during office hours but help can be a loose definition as he is often sidetracked and doesn't offer a great deal of clarification. Labs are long and dry, data that is collected is often never use. Course is unorganized...

Dave knows the course material and is clearly passionate about it. Unfortunately, that doesn't mean that lectures are interesting or exciting. In fact, his lectures are long and rather dry. However, they are relatively easy to follow. Write as many notes as you can since his tests ask fairly detailed questions about topics only covered in lecture.

Awful slides, midterms, exams, explanations, everything. Do not take the class with him unless you truly like feeling awful about yourself. His slides are all over the placevery point form, making them impossible to study later on. The midtermsexam are always short long answer, and you never know why he takes points off.... Switch out

When I asked for help individually, he was very helpful, but his lectures can be a bit dry. His midterms are very difficult and the material can be a bit confusing. His slides are horrible though and can be difficult to understand at times. Decent course that I would take again, but I would certainly take it with a different professor.

I would never take any of his classes again. His midterms are very difficult, his lectures are pointless and he rambles. He's very self centred and loves to brag about his experiments. Terrible prof. Do yourself a favour and drop the class.

Avoid at all costs. Scatterbrained & inconsistent in teaching what we will be tested on. Powerpoint's are all abbreviated and make no sense. His lecturing style sucks, I dont know how he does it, but after sitting there for an hour, I leave with out any new knowledge. Makes simple concepts difficult. Stick to research. To pretentious for a prof.

Dave is extremely disorganized, and marks both labs and tests without logic. He does not explain why he takes points off here and there, I feel like he makes up the marking scheme as he writes. Sure hes a great guy, and I'm sure a great researcher, but one of the worst professors... He is also very headstrong.

Loved Dr. Shutler, his power points are a bit vague but as long as you can take notes its pretty easy to write down additional things he says. Midterms are pretty easy as long as you study, and his lectures are interesting. Throws lots of jokes in to keep everyone awake. Can sometimes be a bit scatterbrained, but overall great prof.

Terrible at teaching in lectures. Makes basic ecology concepts difficult. mixes ideas and concepts together . Contradicts basic ecology knowledge. Gives out random percentages or numbers without reason. lacking a serious amount of basic research into the subject being taught.

Absolutely horrible professor. Teaches the intro course as if he is trying to weed out the weak. You have to decipher his slides, everything is abbreviated. Worst professor I have had yet. Highly recommend any other professor.
