Probably one of the coolest professors out there, really nice guy, I personally find that he teaches the material quite well, and has sparked an unfound interest I ddnt know I had for astronomy. 10/10

He is the nicest prof I've ever had. Not only does he post his slides online, he also posts exactly what he says to go along with it. Even if you don't go to all the classes you'll be able to do well if you read his notes. His assignments (ex. find me an astronomy related poem) are also pretty much a non-factor, you'll never stress about them.

Extremely dull... convoluted explanations of some material; yet barely skimming others. Tests on minutiae barely mentioned/explained in class. An A may be easy but he's aloof, not a very likeable peron.

I'm sorry, I didn't like him at all. He TRIES to be straightforward (as you can tell by the tone of his website), but in reality, is very shady, evasive, consistently off topic, more concerned with making irrelevant analogies than teaching, and will lull you into complacency. His powerpoints are a mess and he assessments/marking is frankly unfair.

Posts all of the PowerPoints online as well as extremely detailed course notes. Attending lectures is really not necessary, but Hanes is a fantastic presenter so you might find yourself going anyway. Very accommodating and is always willing to clarify concepts, even 1 on 1, just you and him. This is how all professors should handle their courses.

I love David Hanes :) He made astronomy class so interesting! If you're on the fence about this class, take it! You can miss a class a week provided you read over all the powerpoint presentations and online notes prior to exams, and you'll do great! This class was so much fun you'll look forward to it I promise

FANTASTIC PROF!!! Keeps it simple and stimulates the interets of the class. He is an amazng presenter with a great sense of humor. Midterms are difficult but his notes are easy to study from. He makes tough physics easy to understand for ARTSCI people. He knows so much about astronomy. Very sad when the course ended. TAKE IT

Professor Hanes is the best teacher I have ever had in my life. He's there because he loves teaching students. Going to his classes makes school exciting - it's more like watching a really cool show on the Discovery Channel than sitting in a lecture. Anyone who wants to learn about the universe we live in should take his courses.

Thank god for a science prof that understands the fear physics instills in the hearts of arts students. this guy can teach any astrophysics concept in a way that people understand- should be on quirks and quarks. The universe is an expanding loaf of raisin bread. BIRKENSTOCK FACTOR IS HIGH
