It has been a long, long time since I was in Axelreod's class. That said, he is awesome! Pompous, ridiculous, rude, caring, thoughtful, brilliant, hilarious... You'll work and learn in his class. You'll leave mad sometimes, but you'll be thinking! He helped me develop a love of writing. He was also my advisor. I could not have had better mentor.

Axelrod is one of the most interesting and intelligent people I've ever met. If you are not an inherently amazing writer, you won't ace his class. His instructions can be unclear, but it's because he wants to see what you create. He will make inappropriate jokes and make fun of people. Stay quiet and you'll be okay. He's pretty hot for a older guy.

Axelrod can be hilarious. Can also make a habit of highlighting students' failures--he thinks it's funny, and it is, but not if you're thin-skinned. Gets a rep for being mean from this. Smart person, very art-obsessed, funny, generally cool prof. Do work or you won't pass; make art or you won't ace it.

The class discussions were great and interesting, but he is very unclear in his directions. When assigned an essay no guidelines are given making it very hard to write to the standards that he wants. Singles out individuals in class so if you don't enjoy this don't take his class.

When I first had Dr. Axelrod, he completely scared the crap out of me. He's very... unique. He isn't afraid to get in your face and tell you that you need to improve. Because, honestly, we all do. I like him. Plus, he's dreamy, so that helps.
