This Proefessor is honestly horrible. He talks a lot to the point where you dont understand anything. I took him for a religion class & he would always put in his political view when giving lectures. He would talk about how bad America politicians are & how messed up our military is. His tests were all in class essays & they were not easy.

Took a condensed course with Prof Brown. Super nice, very funny, very fair. You need the book to pass, but lectures are worth listening to (though sometimes w/ odd conspiracies). Be ready for lots of Cheney jokes. Exams are comprehensive and in essay form. Attendance is of *paramount* importance.

He is hard to understand, and talks really fast. He requires the book and lots of out of class reading. He grades tough and doesn't have clear guidelines for how he grades.

If you aren't good at writing essays then don't take this class and blame the professor. If you don't mind writing a bit then he's a great professor, explains things well, and is clear about what he wants on papers. If unsure please ask he's happy to elaborate. Class discussions were hilarious in my opinion, had a great time and learned some.

If you really need to take this class and have no other options on a different teacher then take him, if not think again. This class is like another English class, constantly reading and write essays. You have a total of 6 essays, 3 in class and 3 out of class he's a tough grader really don't give a criteria for what he wants in his papers.

Be careful when choosing to take a class with Professor Brown. He's not a tech person so he will not upload anything (including grades) on Blackboard. If you skip class, you'll seriously be screwed. Be prepared to take exceptionally detailed notes and be able to regurgitate it during in-class essays and take home essays. NOT an easy class.

He is an inspiring professor who makes you think and question everything. I learned a lot. He tries his best to teach well, and he does. Tests are in class essays. It's really important to follow along with him and understand what he's talking about- ask him questions if you don't!

He was good at explaining topics. Not an easy class if writing essays are not your best suit but he is a good teacher. If you read the readings ahead of class you'll be good.

Brown is a good philosophy teacher, but you really need to be there for lecture. He'll often go off on tangents about happenings around the world, but he admits he's a little off at times. It's actually more hilarious than anything, but regardless he gets the teaching done. Reading optional, but he gives ec on tests if you reference book materials.

Dr. Brown teaches at a university level and philosophy is not easy. Wonderful professor. You'll learn a lot in his class. Taking good notes will help you with essays. Don't skip class. Good sense of humor and genuinely wants you to succeed. Although not necessary, an english composition class will really help you succeed in this course.

Philosophy is hard. he is not bad at explaining, but must be awake and alert to fully understand. build a good relationship with him and send in essays before due date, and he will review it and edit with you. strongly recommended.

Lecture is fine - writes the notes incompletely so you will listen. Tests are not difficult. He will often go off on tangents giving his unsolicited opinion on polarizing political issues claiming it has to do with the class. He has no control over the class and says nothing about rampant chatter during lecture. Not a serious learning environment.

Professor Brown is my favorite professor at NOVA so far. He's extremely clear, intelligent, and funny. Had to do quite a bit of writing for his tests, but as long as you convince him that you made a worthy effort, he'll take care of you. I took him for a 6week summer session and I regret it. Wish I could've had the class for an entire semester.

Dr. Brown is by far the best professor I have had at college. I've moved on from NVCC now but I've yet to come across a better professor than Dr. Brown. Class is a challenge, but in a good way. If you're a typically college slacker he's not for you, you have to be engaged in this class. I'd be surprised if I find a professor as great as he is.

I came in with already some prior philosophical training but quickly found out Dr. Brown is no intellectual lightweight. His class gave my own studies and writing fresh perspectives? new challenges, and insights. The depth and range of study in philosophy is truly bottomless. If requested he can tailor a specific course for greater challenge.

Professor Brown is an excellent teacher, who knows his topics of instruction. His class is challenging but he provides a lot of clarification to help students understand. He is patient and is willing to explain what someone might not understand clearly. He encourages questions and it helps that there is voluntary class participation.

I have taken him for Latin 101 and 201, both B's. I plan to take 202, but I am unsure of what it takes to get an A in his class. He doesn't use math as far as I know. Attendance is required. Finals are simple but require good preparation. If anyone knows how to get an A in his Latin class please enlightenment me.

Dr. Brown's exams were to be answered in essay format. Class participation, note taking, and reading the material is vital for your desired grade. He is definitely thorough with his explanations of the text and demonstrates using multiple examples to clarify all questions.

Professor Brown is a really good teacher. He is serious about his subjects and helping students to understand. His class is not easy but keep up in the reading and pay attention and you should be fine. BTW, his texts/exams are essays so learn the information. He is interesting but you have to give him a chance.
