Hands down the greatest professor I have ever had the honor of knowing. Amazing lectures, tons of content, but so much fun. Hes funny, ethusiastic, and above all a Historians man. I have taken every class he offers and ended up with not only solid grades and a ton of knowledge, but an powerful and inciteful way of being a great historian.

First off, I recommend avoiding this professor if you're not a history major. There's an incredible amount of reading, and if you don't read it you will struggle to pass. The class is consistent and challenging. Some quizzes, a paper, and two in class essays. He gives you the potential prompts ahead of time, but they're pretty intense. He's alright

Highly recommend 1960s and Vietnam! The first half of the classes cover what was going on in general - Kennedy, civil rights, counter culture, ect. - and the second half covers the Vietnam War. He likes if you ask insightful questions. You can miss two days and he rewards you if you miss two or less. Take this class it's so fun, you learn a lot!

You've got to put a ton of work into his 1960s class. He relies too much on student aides who don't know how to grade papers. Great lectures though.

Dr. Courtwright's 1960s and Vietnam class is awesome! A definite for anyone interested in history. Great professor that is really knowledgeable about the subject. A few quizzes, 2 tests and a long paper. Tons of reading that is somewhat interesting, so be prepared. Will take more classes with Professor Courtwright in the future!

He is strict on attendance. Pretty much follows his syllabus. You will do a lot of reading. Maybe 4 or 5 books. Plus online articles. If you aren't willing to read, don't take the class.

No history major or minor is complete without Dr. Courtwright's "1960's & Vietnam" class. I especially enjoyed the Vietnam veterans panel and hearing their stories.

He's an excellent and engaging lecturer. But it was a massive lecture class, so there was very little interaction with individual students. Nice guy and approachable, though. I'd like to take a smaller class with him someday.

Wow, best teacher I've had so far at UNF. His lectures are engaging and just plain fun to listen to. There is a lot of reading, but they are awesome books that I'd recommend to anyone who loves history. Exams are rough, but grading is fair. Courtwright is a must take for history students, I hope I'll be lucky enough to have him again.

A great historian, a great writer (read his new book "No Right Turn") and an even greater instructor, David Courtwright is the standard by which all other History professors should be compared. If you have a true love of History and want a professor who shares the same passion, there is none better than David Courtwright.

Great professor who genuinely loves his job. Never a boring lecture. Although I really didn't care for the readings. they provided the foundations of his lectures. I would take again if given the chance.

LOVE HIM! I had him for 1960's and Vietnam and it was the most interesting class I have ever taken. It is good to do the readings to keep up, but his lectures are very informative and I learned a lot. He obviously loves what he does. Take him if you like history!

Avoid Courtwright! If you are not a flaming liberal You will not make better than a B+! He told me how he wanted my final paper written and then blasted me on the way I wrote it it! I almost failed this Masters level course because I followed his direction. If you are one of his favorites, you cannot get an "A"

He is probably the most entertaining professor I have ever had. He makes the subject interesting and he uses lots of film clips to illustrate his points. He has 3 papers, 2 quizzes (on authors) and 1 final essay test which he gives you 4 possible essay questions it could be. He sets you up to succeed and learn, you just have to do your part.
