There is A LOT of reading, but if you read and take good notes you will get an A. Tests are all subjective, but easy if you know the material. He is retiring this year (S11), but may teach this course next year? Awesome Professor!!!! He really does make learning history fun (which is what its all about)

Great instructor. Retired this year (S11). Must read ALL material in his course to get a good grade. All tests are subjective, but if you read you won?t have a problem. Makes learning history very fun?. He is going to be missed! He may teach a few courses during retirement - I hope so!

Dr. Dean is the single greatest teacher teaching at FSU. Amazing professor, knows EVERYTHING about...everything. Learned so much in this class, and I didn't just learn it to pass exams. Take this guy for everything you can. He's funny, and he makes fun of everyone. This guy is the reason I switched my major to History. Great, great professor.

He's an upbeat guy and not a bad professor, but unless you're on his "good" side he's anything but approachable. Many times I sensed that he was more partial to other students and just plain snarky and rude to others. DON'T TAKE HIS HONORS COURSE, if you can help it...

Dean is exactly what you think a college professor will be like. He lectures the entire class-though the lectures are interesting and funny-and rarely asks students for information. However, if he does ask you a question, he really puts you on the spot-it can be scary and humiliating. He is a hard grader, but his expectations are not unreasonable.

Great Guy. Seems Hard At First But You Get Use To It. Once You Learn His Style, You Will Love His Class. Test Are All Short Written Answers. Book Easy To Read. I Would Recommend Him Top Anyone Who Needs History. Going To Try To Get Him Again For Upper Level.

Dr. Dean is one of the most knowledgeable professors, if not people i've ever met. He definitely knows what he's talking about. I am the kind of person who hates history and he made it bearable. He is very funny and sarcastic and will only pick on you if you deserve it. He's pretty hard though. No attendance policy but i suggest going to class.

My favorite professor at FSU! He knows so much about world issues and forms opinions that have helped me to form my own. I wish I could sit and talk with him for a long time; he has amassed a lot of knowledge and he shares it with his students. He's also funny and makes sure class stays interesting and refreshing. I hope I can take him again.

Dr. Dean was by far the most knowledgeable professor Ive ever had! I enjoyed his antecdotes and I enjoyed the fact that we read 11 books in 16 weeks! As a professor, he challenged your skills and abilities and forced you to rise to the occasion! Thanks to him, I am a History teacher as well! Thank you Dr. Dean!

Dr. Dean is a very knowledgable teacher. He expects a lot from his students, but he is very dedicated to them. His lectures are really interesting because he offers real-life examples and makes you feel like you could have been in that time period. The material may be a little challenging b/c he doesn't remind you of assignments but I recommend him
