I had him for English 101. Hes pretty good if you do the work. He stresses heavily on Etutoring, getting outside help to read the essays. Gives you lots of credit if you submit to etutuoring and show proof of submission. There is no textbook required however he does print out lots of papers and expects you to read it and prepared to discuss.

Would honestly be a better mailman than a teacher. He says that he is open to different ideas but will drone on for 80 minutes about how what he thinks is right. He will give you a bad grade unless your paper blows his mind. Doesn't seem to realize that we are students with other responsibilities and classes. Assigns a paper per week. Never take.

I would give him a zero if i could. He's so rude and does not respect all opinions. Tough grader, and we have a paper due every week. He barely calls on people because he's too busy talking about his nostalgia of the 50s. This class is awful. Do yourself a favor and don't take it. At least not with Gary.

He is very enthusiastic about what he teaches and has a lot of passion when he speaks. If you are not a lecture based learner like myself, his IDS 210 class may be a bit challenging. He appreciates students who speak up in class and if you disagree with something do not hesitate to tell him. He is understanding and respects different opinions.

He is a very passionate professor that cares about all of his students. You have to show up to class in order to pass since there is no book required for the class. I highly recommend taking any of his courses.

Professor Carlson was interesting and captivating to any student interested in the history of rock 'n' roll. We did not get through the entire SOC254 syllabus because he was perceptive to students' interests and provided specific examples and lectures accordingly. It was so much fun to take a class with a teacher so enthusiastic about the material.

Hes not an easy professor but you'll tell english is his passion and just wants the students to learn more about literature. But class discussion is mostly him just talking and talking about the piece without,at times, giving opportunities to the students to talk about the text themselves. The class just ends up falling asleep.

He's by no means an easy grader, but he did get my writing into shape for the rest of my college career. I feel ashamed because I didn't give his course my best shot, so I didn't get the most out of his class. He has a lot to teach and really knows his stuff. He's as fair a grader as one can get, and you WILL become a better writer.

Carlson is a fascinating man! Taking humanities with him at the moment. Very enthusiastic, loves what he teaches. His grading on the papers see fair enough. For a good participation grade SIT IN THE FRONT! He's more likely to call on students in the front rows. Do your journals, participate in class discussions, laugh at his jokes and you'll pass.

He's not an easy professor, which I love! He pushed me to do my best. LOVED his class. I learned and improved my writing so much. I would definitely take him again because he's in the classroom to teach rather than waste anyone's time.

Carlson is a tough teacher, but he really did teach me to be a better writer. I can see how some might not take a liking to the guy, but if you want to really learn how to write, then take his class. You will do work though, and he is not an easy going teacher.

He is NOT great. He acts all laid back but will slam you if you don't have something done. He has favorites. I had major family emergency and 3 our of my 4 professor worked with me to get through the semester. NOT Carlton. Heartless.

I noticed that some say he was not that great, but I have to say that he was the best English teacher I've had in my entire life. I aced his class, yes it took some work, but he thanked me for my unique insight as I thanked him for the best English experience of my life. Simply amazing. Funny, on task, diligent, and thorough. Very encouraging.

Excellent Professor. Challenges his students with difficult assignments and actually grades on performance. Always has an open ear if something is going on, let him know, he is very understanding. Honestly one of the best professors I have ever had. Thank you.
