Great professor! For my online class there was weekly reading (text +other sources) and discussion posts. 2 short essays, 2 long. The prof wrote the book himself but it was actually interesting and I didn't feel fleeced. Material is more interesting then I expected!! Lots of cool info. You do have to put in effort, but I felt an appropriate amount.

Professor Del Mar deeply cares about his students and reaching out in the community. Exspect to volunteer and engage with individuals outside the classroom, and write quite a few papers. Overall a great professor and person

He is an easy A as long as you show up to class and participate. You do have to do some reading a write a lot of papers, but he gives you SO MUCH TIME in class. He helps and will read your rough drafts weeks in advance. Really helpful

I appreciate how easy it is to connect with his online presence. He makes weekly lecture videos and is clear about his expectations ("There will be reading, so if you don't like that, drop the class!"). Most importantly, David leaves an incredible amount of space for historical criticism, something students can focus on in their 3 midterm essays.

I can't say enough about Professor DelMar. He is amazing, thorough, tough, and clear, he helps, he is respectful, fast, has lectures pre recorded that help guide you...I have taken many classes from him because I can excel with his instructions. He is very clear on how he wants his essays, very clear if you miss the mark, uses several book.

I took History of Oregon and History of the American Family. They were my favorite classes in college and he was my favorite professor. Loved the texts and lectures. It made me want to become a history major. He is an expert in his field. I learned so much.

The subject material was incredibly interesting and I was able to learn quite a bit. The summer course was very reading intense but also very informative. It took a couple of weeks to get the grasp of what he was looking for in the writings but I eventually got it. Great teacher and hope to take another course with him!

Do not take his course if you are expecting to skate by with little effort. His courses are directed toward college students who are willing to work for their grades. If you put in the effort, you will be rewarded with a good grade. This was one of my favorite courses outside of my major.

Almost the worst instructor I've encountered. Horrible online lecture videos, unclear about expectations because language changes to describe assignments, and even though the work isn't hard, you have to be a scholar to get a good grade. Skip his online classes if at all possible.

Dr. Del Mar is the best professor I have ever learned from. He's very knowledgeable, his passion for what he does is very contagious...you can't help but love learning from him. He's above all a very good hearted human being. I love him and plan to read all his works! You should too.

This professor's course is reading intensive. I took the summer online course and we were responsible for 10 discussions and 4 essays. The workload is completely fair but the grading is a bit confusing. The structure isn't really clear and you're graded on how he feels you did overall and the feedback is not too helpful either.

He knows his stuff but is a harsh grader. Del Mar also does this thing with his tongue that looks like he's trying to wet his lips with the exact middle of his tongue. It's weird and I find myself staring instead of taking notes. I NEVER took notes.

I really enjoyed David's class, especially the independent work, as I work better by myself. There is a lot of work to keep up with and he likes you to use examples from the text. I did well on all my essays but my classmates had some issues, so I would suggest sending him your essay a few days early because he will give you feedback.

Good lecturer and writing coach. He really helps you to form coherent arguments in your writing, and I came away impressed that he could do it for hours in lecture. Great professor, challenging without a lot of busy work.

This online class felt like an independent study course with very minimal interaction. He offers no supplemental lecture materials to the texts. He gives vague questions and he expects incredibly explicit answers. Be prepared to read and write a LOT! If you are taking other online classes and a full load - this may not be the class for you.

This was a great class because I learned a lot but there is a lot of work. We had four essays and eight discussion postings of around 300 words a piece and total of eight responses to others' postings. Lots of reading as well. He's a good professor who is knowledgeable. Just be prepared to work very hard.

This teacher is awesome. This class definitely has a lot of reading, but the format of the class was very straight forward, no surprises. Online class consists of 2 discussion questions every two weeks, responding posts, three essays, and a final term paper. This instructor is a wonderful teacher and is very passionate about it all. Great guy!

VERY heavy work load. You need to read three books, participate in a few weekly discussions, and write random papers. In addition to all that you also need to deliver a speech in class. The instructor is very nice and knowledgable and always willing to help. Be prepared to work hard if you take this class. I wish it was a bit lighter work load.

David IS a nice guy but I had to drop this one because the workload was unrealistic for me. Be prepared to try to read/skim maybe up to 200 pages between classes (mine met once a week) and write a paper right off the bat. This was the only class I ever dropped at PSU, and I'm a senior now. Good luck.
