Super kind, easy going man! He wants to see his students do well. If you struggle in history, simply ask him a few questions and you're sure to do well.

Have him for African history. Class is dry. But I'm a science major, humanities just aren't my thing I guess. Attendance and participation make up 10% of the grade on the syllabus. That said, I don't think he actually tracks it. Exams are essay questions on lecture material. As long as you take notes, or get them from a friend it's a breeze.

Dr. Devereux is a wonderful professor that is incredibly knowledgeable about Asian history. Four quizzes, lowest one is dropped. Three essays 4-6 pages on 3 different books. Not a tough grader and is super helpful if you visit during office hours. The writing may seem extensive, but it's a history course.

He is a bit of a tough grader but if you do the papers (on time) you will pass them. He wants effort. He drops the lowest quiz grade out of 4 which is helpful. He wanted us to read 3 books for the course +the textbook and I didn't do either yet got a B in the class. Just show up and answer a question every so often.

I took this course for a history major writing requirement and wouldn't recommend this course for those not involved within the major. Was an advanced writing credit which meant a lot of reading and intensive essays but, Dr. Devereux is a fantastic professor. Other classes he teaches are more relaxed and he is always available for consultation.

Great teacher, but for every class (semester) get ready to read 3 books with a paper accompanying each. For upper level classes, tougher reads, lower classes, easy. Fair grader. Fair grader, but I feel that if he knows you personally you might do better, which means show up to class and participate. Counts for these classes His 109-10, 300 and 395

Dr. D is actually very interesting. The class was much better than I had expected it to be. Definitely a good choice for the history pre-requisite.

Dr. Devereux is one of the best teachers I've had at Canisius. His lectures are interesting and informative. There were 2 exams and 3 papers. He gave 3 possible essay questions before the exam and picked one of them. If you have the chance, take a class with him.

hes a nice enough guy, but this class is a bit much for a 100 level course. there are 4 books that need to be read with 8 page papers on each of them. there was a textbook but we've never used it, material is all from his class lectures. there really isnt homework.. a quiz every other week then the midterm & final. he knows a lot about history too

Devereux definately knows what he is talking about when it comes to history. He's been to the places he teaches about so you know he enjoys his subject area. He's a nice guy and his tests and quizzes aren't too hard. The papers in this class were most of the grade but they are just based off short books you read. Relatively easy class.

Awesome professor. He is very knowledgeable, and his lectures flow like stories. He asks a lot of questions to encourage students to make inferences about historical events instead of him always just talking at the class. Only gives 3 papers a year, and two essay exams so no homework. A must take!

Dr. Devereux seems like he would be a really easy grader, but really he is not. This is not a bad thing however! Class participation alone is 10% of your grade, and he gives the midterm and final exam question in advance of actually taking them. It is possible to get in the A-range with him, but make sure you write the papers very well.

Tough but good professor. Grades papers and essays difficult, but only because he wants you to succeed. His class is lecture based and very clear, explaining everything in detail. Novels we have to read were not completely interesting. Gives out questions for exams ahead of time, and picks one to give for the exam. Very helpful and supportive prof.

I am a sophmore here at Canisius and so far I can pretty much say that Dr. Devereux has been my favorite History professor. Quizzes are generally easy (right from the notes). Read a couple books and write papers on them. A midterm and a final. Not bad if you ask me!

Dr. Devereux is a great professor. He does not give busy work. There are two papers, a midterm, and a final exam. Other than that, lectures are basically straight out of the textbook. If you keep up on the reading, you will easily get an A.
