Great guy! He really knows his stuff, and is always there to help. He always thanks his classes for being so nice at the end. He also buys the class pizza at the end of the year. Such a nice guy overall!

tests not the same each year. very difficult because of format. Most of the test is matching and all the possible choices to choose from are of every historic figure,event covered in that section. choose from 70 choices and some are used more than once. Doesnt get through material,puts material on the test that isnt covered. goes on tangents

Dr. Barker is an AMAZING PROFESSOR!! He tells history like it is a soap opera on TV and keeps the class interested from the beginning to the end. There is not much daily work involved but the tests can be difficult. I am a senior and have taken many many classes, but this has been one of my favorites to sit through because of his energy!

Very knowledgable and made history entertaining with his stories. He is definetly by far the best option for any history class. He gives you a study sheet and if you study that you will be fine.

Great guy really great guy but his class is tough. Make sure you do the readings for sure. Don't skip class or you will fail for sure. His exams are worth 60% of your grade and the first exam will be the hardest you take. Great guy he will help you but be cautious his class is hard

2 Exams and a Final, and 1 paper, like 2 quizzes, not bad at all Dr. Barker is literally fantastic. I hate history and was never good at it, but this guy makes it worth showing up to class. You'll always be laughing in this class. He's knowledgeable in everything and can talk to you about any topic just to chat. HIGHLY RECOMMEND, I LOVE HIM.

Dr. Barker is the man. He's one of the funniest people I've had in my time at Canisius, and a very intelligent guy. Goes off on random tangents that always keep you entertained. I would highly recommend taking him if anyone has the opportunity

Dr. Barker is great. When I got "Men and ideas in history" on my schedule I was very uneasy and didn't expect to like it but I must say I stand corrected. I don't know how he manages to make such dry material so interesting but he does. The class is actually fun, and he teaches in a way that makes you want to listen, and remember. Highly recommend.

He's an awesome teacher and does a great job at making it interesting. I've never been good at history and i really had to put work in at the class because he is a bit of a tough grader, but he makes it fun to learn. Any history class will require work, so you might as well take him and make it fun! I've been to his office multiple times for help.

Honestly professor Barker is incredible. He can be a bit of a tough grader, but if you take good notes during class you can do extremely well on the exams. I've taken him twice and I've never actually read the text books, because he tests mainly on what you do in class. He is an awesome guy who will try to make things as interesting as possible!

Dr. Barker is the man; he's a tough grader but a great teacher and very approachable outside of class - I've had lengthy cell-phone conversations with him past eight o'clock at night. He's hilarious and often goes on rants only loosely related to the subject. Challenging but rewarding.

On a paper (oh yeah, the three paper and two exam grading policy was not a good idea), he would bring you down from A to A-, an A- to B+, etc. for every side of an argument you forget to mention. Also, there are no redos/retakes. Sure, he's hilarious, but thats no reason to take him

One of the best professors I've had at Canisius! He is really knowledgable and passionate about history. He teaches with great clarity and manages to make the information somewhat easy to remember. Provides review sheets for the three tests and extensive guidelines for the term paper. I would definitely reccommend this professor!

One of the BEST history profs at canish!He absolutely loves what he teachers about and it shows. Very funny guy and approachable.Review sheets for test can be lengthy and the test only has 4 questions and an essay.READING THE TEXT IS ESSENTIAL. I TOTALLY reccomend this class for EVERYONE even if you have no interest in history.

Best history professor at Canisius. Always willing to meet outside of class for clarification/help. Tests are straightforward which is helpful since there is a lot of material to know. He's really passionate about history and he's quite funny too; he always throws in a few jokes and pop culture references while he lectures. Definitely take him!
